TL;DR: The authors argue that the distinction between functional and non-functional categories, between content words and inflections, is not as deeply rooted in grammar as is often thought.
Abstract: Grammatical categories (e.g. complementizer, negation, auxiliary, case) are some of the most important building blocks of syntax and morphology. Categorization therefore poses fundamental questions about grammatical structures and about the lexicon from which they are built. Adopting a 'lexicalist' stance, the authors argue that lexical items are not epiphenomena, but really represent the mapping of sound to meaning (and vice versa) that classical conceptions imply. Their rule-governed combination creates words, phrases and sentences - structured by the 'categories' that are the object of the present inquiry. They argue that the distinction between functional and non-functional categories, between content words and inflections, is not as deeply rooted in grammar as is often thought. In their argumentation they lay the emphasis on empirical evidence, drawn mainly from dialectal variation in the Romance languages, as well as from Albanian.

TL;DR: This paper presents an analysis of temporal specification that is based directly on Reichenbach’s account, and attempts to show that they can be reconciled with the facts of English.
Abstract: The only obligatory temporal expression in English is tense, yet Hans Reichenbach (1947) has argued convincingly that the simplest sentence is understood in terms of three temporal notions. Additional possibilities for a simple sentence are limited: English sentences have one time adverbial each. It is not immediately clear how to resolve these matters, that is, how (if at all) Reichenbach’s account can be reconciled with the facts of English. This paper attempts to show that they can be reconciled, and presents an analysis of temporal specification that is based directly on Reichenbach’s account.

TL;DR: The authors make a distinction between Discourse linguistics and Discourse Analysis, which has a specific viewpoint on discourse, and propose the field of self-constituting discourses, which brings together those discourses that legitimate the whole discursive production, such as philosophical, scientific or religious discourses.
Abstract: This article begins by asking whether boundaries can be assigned to discourse analysis. It suggests making a distinction between `discourse linguistics' and `discourse analysis', which has a specific viewpoint on discourse. It propounds next to open to research the field of `self-constituting discourses', thus bringing together those discourses that legitimate the whole discursive production, such as philosophical, scientific or religious discourses. Lastly the article emphasizes some characteristics of such discourses and presents concepts that are useful in analysing them - particularly `scenography', `linguistic code', and `ethos', and offers illustrative examples.

TL;DR: The aim of this paper is to shed light on the notion of "conceptual relation pattern" via corpus analysis experiments via bottom-up approach, and the degree of dependency between conceptual relation pattern and corpus is discussed.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to shed light on the notion of "conceptual relation pattern" via corpus analysis experiments. On the basis of this bottom-up approach, three main points are discussed. First the degree of dependency between conceptual relation pattern and corpus is discussed. This dependency may range from insignificant to complete; it may also be linked to corpus genre. Then, the limits of purely binary conception of relations are examined through the description of patterns taking into account argument structure. Finally, an example in which application may influence patterns choice is presented. Some generally admitted classical assumptions are discussed and revisited by presenting empirical results.
