Abstract: From the very beginning Jean Paul has posed a problem for the literary world. Already with his first novels, readers, critics, and fellow authors were at a loss when it came to describing the unique phenomenon of his writings: their form, their words, their wit, and their pathos. For one contemporary, Jean Paul's pastiche of disparate elements recalled an impossible archaeological site, where one finds, "eine Sammlung aus allen Triimmern Babylons, Persepolis', Roms und Nfirenbergs, auf einen Platz auf gut Gluck untereinander zusammengehauft."l This metaphor of a collection of ruins does not lie far from the truth; Jean Paul's remarkable, idiosyncratic erudition together with his philosophy of wit (that functions like "der verkleidete Priester, derjedes Paar kopuliert"2) produced a kaleidoscopic heterogeneity of word, metaphor, and image that is as enticing and strange today as it was at the time of composition.3 No reference, no allusion

Abstract: The poststructuralist concept of the de-centred subject has been central to the deconstruction of the desire for mastery, self-sameness and identity. Through a deconstruction of the desirous logic of binary oppositions such as subject–object, I–You, self–other, masculine–feminine, poststructuralists bring to light the subversive possibilities in the negated term. This term is based on principles of meaning that displace the sameness and separation of oppositional logic: what is repressed is difference and relation. We argue that difference and relationality cannot be deduced through a deconstruction of binary oppositions and the centred subject. Relations are based on an alternative ontology, time and space, and on an inclusive rather than an exclusive or oppositional logic. The key to this different logic is a distinction between finitude and infinitude. Whereas oppositions presume the existence of finite terms, relationality presumes the reality of infinitude. In an experience of relationality, subjecthood is suspended; there are no finite terms, but, rather, the undefinable non-oppositional difference of wholeness.

Abstract: mensurate. Ellison speaks the language of the liberal, who affirms individualism, justice, and liberty; he also speaks the language of the communitarian, who extols the virtues of different traditions and who is critical of liberal neutrality toward alternative views of the good; lastly, he plays the role of the radical genealogist, who excavates and unmasks the self-understandings of American culture across racial lines.1 Ellison's work does not simply adopt these vocabularies in an ad hoc fashion; instead, he offers a critique and recuperation of them, and this critical gesture requires the creation of a metatheoretical space that contempo rary theory drives out, a space that is indispensable for improving our deliberations about democracy. Debates over language, politics, and subjectivity in recent theory have foreclosed the kind of metatheoretical reflection that Ellison's texts perform. These debates have not thematized competing accounts but dramatized them, as we see in Habermas 's debate with poststructuralism, in the exchange between communitarians and liberals, and in the arguments between identity politicians and poststructuralists.2 Theorists in the debates tie their ethical/political views to a grand assumption about linguistic ontology.3 The damage produced by these assumptions and the need for metatheoretical reflection emerge in a recent remark by Henry Louis Gates:

Abstract: New language rights legislation in Peru has triggered State training of indigenous translator-interpreters to work in public service and prior consultation settings. A spin-off of the training has been the translation of the text of the 2011 Languages Act from Spanish into a range of indigenous languages. This article focuses on the challenges of the translating process to Quechua and Aymara. These challenges arose from the structural differences between source and target languages, the divergent conceptual systems that embed the original text and its translations, and the different trade-offs between orality and literacy of the cultural systems involved. Finally, we also address issues concerning the relationship between the translators' cultural identities and the translation process.

Abstract: Partant du constat que la langue de l'economie contient bon nombre de metaphores, nous nous sommes attachee a etudier plus particulierement le domaine des monnaies afin de rendre compte de la specificite du discours sur l'euro et d'affiner une analyse ebauchee a l'occasion d'une approche de la neologie autour de la monnaie unique. Un rappel des notions fondamentales concernant la metaphore en general nous a semble indispensable pour mieux situer le cadre de notre etude : les questions de semiotique et de semantique, de lexicalisation de la metaphore et de metaphore d'invention, ainsi que les differentes fonctions de la metaphore sont abordees. Puis, nous avons passe en revue les registres metaphoriques le plus frequemment utilises pour parler des monnaies en general, avant d'examiner le cas de l'euro et d'essayer d'en faire ressortir la specificite, en insistant sur les domaines d'emprunt qui caracterisent son discours. Enfin, nous avons tente d'analyser ce discours et de montrer comment les metaphores peuvent se reveler source precieuse de renseignements sur une periode donnee et comment le message qu'elles vehiculent peut devenir instructif quant aux opinions de ses auteurs et de ses destinataires
