TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the participants of the editorial newsprint genre of the Chilean newspapers during September 2003 using a corpus composed of 227 publications from five different nationwide Chilean newspapers.
EnglishEvery discourse activity implies at least two participants. It is possible to attribute a double identity to each participant. On one hand, there is a pre-eminent psycho-social identity which pertains to the act of speech. On the other hand, there is a discourse identity that is constructed when the act of speaking is derived from text. Recognizing the double identities of the participants in an act of speech helps to characterize the discourse genre from which it is formed. The aim of this research is to identify the participating subjects of the editorial newsprint genre. The corpus is composed of 227 publications from five different nationwide Chilean newspapers during September 2003. The methodological procedures are framed within the ?semiodiscourse? analysis (Charaudeau, 2003) that is involved with the understanding of the social sense interpreting recurrent linguistic structures in relation to the characteristics of the enunciation. The results show how the linguistic configuration of participating subjects is a strategic resource available to the communicator, which in the case of the editorials, it serves to the purpose of influencing public opinion.

TL;DR: Mallarme's study of rhythm extends beyond his theoretical writings, and can be traced in his prose poem "Le Nenuphar blanc" as discussed by the authors, where the imagery of water, vegetation and the water-lily expands the notion of place in the poem, not merely to highlight the hidden space of a woman in nature, but to extend the consideration of rhythm through a new view of nature itself.
Abstract: Stephane Mallarme’s study of rhythm extends beyond his theoretical writings, and can be traced in his prose poem ‘Le Nenuphar blanc’. The imagery of water, vegetation, and the water-lily expands the notion of place in the poem, not merely to highlight the hidden space of a woman in nature, but to extend the consideration of rhythm through a new view of nature itself. Rhythm and movement in visible natural space are amplified through the invisible, inaccessible elements below the surface of the water. Among the underwater stems of bushes and water lilies, Mallarme turns to the floating, submerged, and hidden webs of the natural world. Rather than merely redirecting our gaze towards the artificial and the manmade, the representation of nature in ‘Le Nenuphar blanc’ provides an extended, concrete model for conceptualizing a theoretical space in which an exploration of rhythm — an abstract Mallarmean category — can occur.
