TL;DR: In this paper, the layout design is an important task when a manufacturing system is constructed, or expanded, and the aim of this research is to study the existing plant layout of manufacturing unit and improve it using systematic layout planning theory (SLP) for better plant area utilization and increased productivity.
Abstract: In the present work, the layout design is an important task when a manufacturing system is constructed, or expanded. The objective of this research is to study the existing plant layout of manufacturing unit and improve it using systematic layout planning theory (SLP) for better plant area utilization and increased productivity In this paper we highlighted some problems faced by one medium scale Auto Ancillary company. The layout of the firm was the main concern regarding the operations conducted and material flow in the assembly line. Company focuses mainly to improve the productivity of plant. We use systematic layout planning (SLP) approach to improve existing layout of the company. The detailed study of the plant layout such as operation process chart, flow of material and activity relationship chart has been investigated. Final layout was selected by installation of new machine with effective utilization of area to improve productivity.

Abstract: This research presents the optimum efficiency improvement of process flow by redesigned the production layout using facility planning methods in a company producing traditional cakes which are bahulu that currently have bottleneck issue, inefficient flow and unnecessary excess movement between activities. The objectives of this study to improve the current plant layout by redesigned it with increasing the production efficiency and productivity of the company. To achieve this aim, there are several layouts generated using Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Graph-Based Theory (GBT) and the Efficiency Rate (ER) of each layout was calculated. The layout with the highest rate was then selected and validated by using WITNESS software. The result showed that the ER of the selected layout improved from 74.49% to 93.40% and also increased the productivity and reduced the processing time up to 10%. The described case study will show how the efficiency and productivity of a real manufacturing system can be improved by redesign layout.

Abstract: The objective of this research is to study the existing plant layout of a nacelle production unit and to design a lean plant layout using SLP (Systematic Layout Planning) to increase its productivity. Analysis of the existing plant layout was made by studying aspects like flow of materials, activity relationships and space requirements. New plant layout alternatives were designed and compared to the existing layout. The new plant layout finally selected showed a significant decrease in the distance of material and work flow travel and resulted in increasing the productivity of the unit.

TL;DR: Decision-making methodologies based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach are applied in the selection of the best plant layout.
Abstract: This paper deals with the problem of finding the optimal plant layout design. Decision-making methodologies based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach are applied in the selection of the best plant layout. New layouts are developed, in an efficient manner, based on the systematic layout planning (SLP). By using the multiple criteria, AHP is applied to weigh the qualitative performance measures. DEA is then used to determine the suitable layout design by measuring layouts’ efficiency, using the information of AHP and combining with the quantitative data. The utilization of the proposed procedure is applied to a real data set of a machining precision parts manufacturing company.

Abstract: The objective of this research is Study of the existing layout of a machining process unit and to design a lean plant layout using SLP (Systematic Layout Planning) to increase its productivity and reduce the material handling cost. Factory layout involves the arrangement and selection of machines, material handling devices, material handling path, resulting in the reduction of cost and time involved in manufacturing a product. The facilities layout problem, which is an integral part of facilities design, aims to spatially locate the production units within a facility subject to some design criteria and area limitations, with one or multiple objectives. In this, a hybrid model that combines a facility allocation technique and a software analysis of the layout is done. Select the best block layout of the machining section with the help of Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique. After selecting the best block layout detailed layout is constructed and this detailed layout is analyzed using ARENA. The installed utilization of the layout is checked. The utilization of the layout is increased by changing the position of the equipment or by introducing a new machine into the layout. With the advent of software which allowed the user to build models and move them around the screen and analysis can be done. Re-layout can also be done until the satisfactory result is obtained.
