TL;DR: This is the beginning where a guidelines manual is defined, act to help specialists of information visualization in the vessel monitoring field, and in the GIS field more in general.
Abstract: In information systems the data representation covers a great importance. In fact the visualization of information is the last point of contact between the user and the information system. This is the space where the communication takes place. In real-time monitoring systems, this passage covers a great importance, especially for reasons related to the time and the transparency of relevant information. These factors are fundamental to vessel monitoring systems. This is the beginning where we start to define a guidelines manual, act to help specialists of information visualization in the vessel monitoring field, and in the GIS field more in general.

TL;DR: The authors argued that there is an inherent categorical duality in the subject domain of information retrieval research, which is stultifying for the development of a single category science, and explored the different ways in which this duality has presented problems for information retrieval The authors.
Abstract: This paper attempts to offer an explanation for the relatively disappointing progress of information retrieval research to develop as a coherent and firmly based empirical discipline. The explanation is based on the argument that there is an inherent categorical duality in the subject domain of information retrieval research which is stultifying for the development of a single category science. Attempts to develop a single category research tradition flounder in the face of this elementary categorical duality while attempts to recognise the duality result in rather complex research designs and perhaps intractable research problems revealed in distinct methodological dilemmas, particularly in relation to the problems of measurement. The different ways in which this categorical duality has presented problems for information retrieval research are explored through an analysis of the two main research traditions which have dominated information retrieval research - the archetypal and cognitive approaches - and in relation to the ideas of Kuhn and Laudan on what constitutes, and what conditions favour, progress in a scientific research tradition.

TL;DR: A practical approach to the development of ontology from thesauri is presented, using the Methontology methodology, which permits the use of any language developed so far for the implementation of ontologies, as well as semantic web annotations based on these ontologies.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a series of papers on classification based on phenomena instead of disciplines, where themes and rhemes are further structural components of such a classification, together with types, levels and facets that have been discussed in the previous parts.
Abstract: This is the fourth in a series of papers on classification based on phenomena instead of disciplines. Together with types, levels and facets that have been discussed in the previous parts, themes and rhemes are further structural components of such a classification. In a statement or in a longer document, a base theme and several particular themes can be identified. Base theme should be cited first in a classmark, followed by particular themes, each with its own facets. In some cases, rhemes can also be expressed, that is new information provided about a theme, converting an abstract statement (“wolves, affected by cervids”) into a claim that something actually occurs (“wolves are affected by cervids”). In the Integrative Levels Classification rhemes can be expressed by special deictic classes, including those for actual specimens, anaphoras, unknown values, conjunctions and spans, whole universe, anthropocentric favoured classes, and favoured host classes. These features, together with rules for pronounciation, make a classification of phenomena a true language, that may be suitable for many uses. TL;DR: This work has included the state-of-the-art in eGovernment domain models, and grouped these initiatives to the following three categories depending on their modeling perspective: object, process and holistic and assess their pros and cons.
Abstract: Society nowadays demands processes in public organizations to be reengineered so that they become more flexible, effective and efficient. Public Administration (PA) is a huge organization with several different activities, with stakeholders that may have conflicting interests or different priorities etc. The application of the organizational engineering approaches in the PA domain can help towards its modernization. One initial step to this direction is to create the appropriate domain models as generic and reusable representations so as to use them as blueprints for modeling the organizations of interest. In this work, we have included the state-of-the-art in eGovernment domain models. We have grouped these initiatives to the following three categories depending on their modeling perspective: object, process and holistic and assess their pros and cons.
