Abstract: A vocabulary stores words, synonyms, word sense definitions (i.e. glosses), relations between word senses and concepts; such a vocabulary is generally referred as the Controlled Vocabulary (CV) if choice or selections of terms are done by domain specialists. A facet is a distinct and dimensional feature of a concept or a term that allows taxonomy, ontology or controlled vocabulary to be viewed or ordered in multiple ways, rather than in a distinct way. The facet is also clearly defined, mutually exclusive, and composed by collectively exhaustive aspects, properties or characteristics of a domain. For example, a collection of rice might be represented using a name facet, place facet etc. In this paper an approach has been proposed where a facet has built for each concept by considering more general concepts (broader terms), less general concepts (narrow terms) or related concepts (related terms) that is to be called concept facet (CF). These CF’s have been used for mapping two controlled vocabularies. This methodology is based on hidden semantic matching which is different from the orthodox view of matching. Finally the aim is to contribute in alignment of controlled vocabulary to enrich the Linked Data version of AGROVOC with appropriate links to other thesauri.

Abstract: In this concept paper I sketch these potential ameliorations at a high level and then work to address some foundational issues associated with attempts at communicating multiple perspectives in a single classification scheme. These include both Melanie Feinberg’s work on rhetorical stance of the classificationist (2010, 2012) and Birger Hjorland’s work on explicit philosophical grounding and classification scheme design (2013).

Abstract: The research proposes the expansion of the class of Spiritism in the Dewey Decimal Classification. Judges the proposal due to the large number of followers and the spiritist literary production. Evidence that is the eighth religion with more practitioners in the world and the third in Brazil. Presents the importance of Spiritist doctrine around the world and in Brazil. Uses the theory proposed by Vanda Brougthon for religion and adds the facets science, philosophy, religion and general aspects of the Spiritist Doctrine. Analyzes proposals for expanding existing classes and elaborates a literature review about the history of spiritualism. Uses the Barite methodology to modify classification schemes. Collects the terms from the spiritist thesaurus and the reference work realized by the Brazilian Spiritist Federation and systematizes the concepts hierarchically. Proposes the expansion of class 202 - Doctrine from the identification and systematization of concepts, placing them in a notational way. Concludes that a doctrine with so many adherents and a great literary production should be better represented in Dewey's Decimal Classification. Also mentions that DDC offers little space of representation in class 200 for the diverse religions practiced in the world.
