# Radiative decays and SU(3) flavour structure of iota (1460)

Abstract: Recently, Chanowitz has derived two constraints which become powerful if the experimental limits on Γ(ι → γγ)/ B(ι → κ κπ) 2 and Γ(ι → ϕγ) · B(ι → κ κπ) are improved. It is pointed out that given the present limit on Γ ( ω → ιγ ), such a possibility appears unlikely.

Abstract: TheSU(3) flavour structure of ι(1460) is exploited to seek consistency between vector meson dominance and anomalous Ward identities. Our analysis shows that a minimum of 10 to 20% breaking in nonet symmetry is necessary to get an overall fit with the radiative rates of low-lying η and η′.

Abstract: Radiative transitions involving neutral mesons with J/sup P/ = 0/sup -/ (eta,eta',iota(1440)) and 2/sup +/ (f,f',theta(1640)) are used to provide information on the light-quark content of these mesons, and to test predictions of models in which these states are quarkonium-gluonium mixtures. Some suggested observations include (l) phi..-->..eta'..gamma.., predicted to have a branching ratio of 7 x 10/sup -5/ in the standard quarkonium picture of eta', (2) f'..--> gamma gamma.., predicted to have a partial width > or approx. =200 eV if f' = ss-bar but very sensitive to possible destructive interference from small nonstrange-quark admixtures, and (3) iota(1440)..--> gamma gamma.. and theta(1640)..--> gamma gamma.., which will be easily detectable unless these states are almost totally free of quarkonium admixtures.

Abstract: Relationships are derived between the iota(1460) partial widths to γγ, ργ, ωγ, and φγ. They can be used to test whether the reported ργ enhancement is due to iota and to study the SU(3) flavor structure of iota decays.

Abstract: Gluon admixtures in neutral pseudoscalar mesons are considered to test the quark-line rule for the reactions pi p to eta Delta , eta n, pp to pi pi eta , etc. It is found that the experimental data on these reactions support the possibility of a small gluonium admixture in the eta and eta ' states. The results have also been used to predict some electromagnetic decay rates of the pseudoscalar glueball states l(1440) along with those of eta and eta '.
