This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.
Abstract
Graphene is the two-dimensional building block for carbon allotropes of every other dimensionality We show that its electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers The D peak second order changes in shape, width, and position for an increasing number of layers, reflecting the change in the electron bands via a double resonant Raman process The G peak slightly down-shifts This allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area

Optical separation of mechanical strain from charge doping in graphene

TL;DR: It is suggested that substrate-mediated mechanical strain is a ubiquitous phenomenon in two-dimensional materials and the proposed analysis will be of great use in characterizing graphene-based materials and devices.

Luminscent Graphene Quantum Dots for Organic Photovoltaic Devices

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that graphene quantum dots blended with regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) or poly(2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4phenylenevinylene) polymer results in a significant improvement in the OPV characteristics as compared to GSs blended conjugated polymers.

Liquid Exfoliation of Defect-Free Graphene

TL;DR: This Account describes recent work to develop such a processing route inspired by previous theoretical and experimental studies on the solvent dispersion of carbon nanotubes, and extends this process to exfoliate other layered compounds such as BN and MoS(2).

Dimensional crossover of thermal transport in few-layer graphene materials

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the room-temperature thermal conductivity changes from K~3000 W/mK to 1500 W /mK as the number of atomic plains in few-layer graphene increases from 2 to 4.

High-Quality Thin Graphene Films from Fast Electrochemical Exfoliation

TL;DR: A simple and fast electrochemical method to exfoliate graphite into thin graphene sheets, mainly AB-stacked bilayered graphene with a large lateral size, which exhibit ultratransparency and sheet resistance superior to those based on reduced graphene oxide or graphene sheets by other exfoliation methods are demonstrated.
