This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.
Abstract
Graphene is the two-dimensional building block for carbon allotropes of every other dimensionality We show that its electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers The D peak second order changes in shape, width, and position for an increasing number of layers, reflecting the change in the electron bands via a double resonant Raman process The G peak slightly down-shifts This allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area

The effect of heat treatment on formation of graphene thin films from graphene oxide nanosheets

TL;DR: Graphene thin films with very low concentration of oxygen-containing functional groups were produced by reduction of graphene oxide nanosheets (prepared by using a chemical exfoliation) in a reducing environment and using two different heat treatment procedures.

Green Synthesis of Biphasic TiO2–Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites with Highly Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity

TL;DR: The synthesized biphasic TiO(2)-RGO nanocomposites have been shown to effectively reduce the electron-hole recombination rate, and it is anticipated that they will be utilized as anode materials in lithium ion batteries.

Graphene in lithium ion battery cathode materials: A review

TL;DR: Graphene is a relatively new and promising material, displaying a unique array of physical and chemical properties as mentioned in this paper, but it has only recently been implemented as an electron conducting additive for lithium ion battery cathode materials.

Direct Growth of Graphene/Hexagonal Boron Nitride Stacked Layers

TL;DR: The direct CVD growth of h-BN on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite and on mechanically exfoliated graphene is demonstrated, as well as the large area growth of G/h-BN stacks, consisting of few layers of graphene and h-bn, via a two-step CVD process.

2D phosphorene as a water splitting photocatalyst: fundamentals to applications

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental electronic, optical and chemical properties of 2D phosphorene and its suitability as a metal-free water splitting photocatalyst are assessed and compared against claims from environmental antagonists.
