Rare-earth abundances in chondritic meteorites

01 Aug 1978-Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta (Pergamon)-Vol. 42, Iss: 8, pp 1199-1212
TL;DR: In this article, 15 chondrites, including eight carbonaceous chondites, were analyzed for rare earth element abundances by isotope dilution, and the persistence of anomalies in chondritic materials relatively removed from direct condensational processes implies that anomalous components were introduced at a late stage of chondrite formation.
About: This article is published in Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta. The article was published on 1978-08-01. It has received 1346 citations till now. The article focuses on the topics: Chondrule & Chondrite.

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of a study to develop natural zircon geochemical standards for calibrating the U-(Th)-Pb geochronometer and Hf isotopic analyses are reported.
Abstract: We report here the results of a study to develop natural zircon geochemical standards for calibrating the U-(Th)-Pb geochronometer and Hf isotopic analyses. Additional data were also collected for the major, minor and trace element contents of the three selected sample sets. A total of five large zircon grains (masses between 0.5 and 238 g) were selected for this study, representing three different suites of zircons with ages of 1065 Ma, 2.5 Ma and 0.9 Ma. Geochemical laboratories can obtain these materials by contacting Geostandards Newsletter.

TL;DR: In this paper, the average chemical compositions of the continental crust and the oceanic crust (represented by MORB), normalized to primitive mantle values and plotted as functions of the apparent bulk partition coefficient of each element, form surprisingly simple, complementary concentration patterns.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that none of the analyzed meteorite samples deviated more than 0.5 e-units from a 4.6-AE reference isochron and defined an initial 4.5-AE value for CHUR using the Juvinas data of Lugmair.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Ogueil Cl meteorite and all previous Cl chondrite analyses were employed to develop a new solar system abundance table, including the standard deviation and number of analyses for each element.

TL;DR: Cotton and Wilkinson's Advanced Inorganic Chemistry (AIC) as discussed by the authors is one of the most widely used inorganic chemistry books and has been used for more than a quarter century.
Abstract: For more than a quarter century, Cotton and Wilkinson's Advanced Inorganic Chemistry has been the source that students and professional chemists have turned to for the background needed to understand current research literature in inorganic chemistry and aspects of organometallic chemistry. Like its predecessors, this updated Sixth Edition is organized around the periodic table of elements and provides a systematic treatment of the chemistry of all chemical elements and their compounds. It incorporates important recent developments with an emphasis on advances in the interpretation of structure, bonding, and reactivity. From the reviews of the Fifth Edition:* "The first place to go when seeking general information about the chemistry of a particular element, especially when up-to-date, authoritative information is desired." -Journal of the American Chemical Society.* "Every student with a serious interest in inorganic chemistry should have [this book]." -Journal of Chemical Education.* "A mine of information . . . an invaluable guide." -Nature.* "The standard by which all other inorganic chemistry books are judged."-Nouveau Journal de Chimie.* "A masterly overview of the chemistry of the elements."-The Times of London Higher Education Supplement.* "A bonanza of information on important results and developments which could otherwise easily be overlooked in the general deluge of publications." -Angewandte Chemie.

TL;DR: In this article, a count of the stable and radioactive elements and isotopes is given, and Table I,1 shows that only promethium has not been found in nature, whereas 99 elements are found terrestrially and technetium is found in stars.
Abstract: Man inhabits a universe composed of a great variety of elements and their isotopes. In Table I,1 a count of the stable and radioactive elements and isotopes is listed. Ninety elements are found terrestrially and one more, technetium, is found in stars; only promethium has not been found in nature.

TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional classification grid based on chemical and petrologic subdivisions of chondritic meteorites is proposed, which extends the current chemical subdivisions to account for varying petrolic (implied metamorphic) properties within the primary chemical groups.
