Ovarian cancer side population defines cells with stem cell-like characteristics and Mullerian Inhibiting Substance responsiveness
Paul P. Szotek,Rafael Pieretti-Vanmarcke,Peter T. Masiakos,Daniela M. Dinulescu,Denise C. Connolly,Rosemary Foster,David Dombkowski,Frederic I. Preffer,David T. MacLaughlin,Patricia K. Donahoe +9 more
TL;DR: In the future, individualized therapy must incorporate analysis of the stem cell-like subpopulation of ovarian cancer cells when designing therapeutic strategies for ovarian cancer patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Borderline and malignant mucinous tumors of the ovary. Histologic criteria and clinical behavior.
William R. Hart,Henry J. Norris +1 more
TL;DR: The findings substantiate the rationale for preserving the contralateral uninvolved ovary in a young woman with a borderline mucinous ovarian tumor and suggest the two should be separated if meaningful data on frequency, behavior, and therapeutic results are to be obtained.
Journal ArticleDOI
Müllerian inhibiting substance: an instructive developmental hormone with diagnostic and possible therapeutic applications.
TL;DR: This review will summarize the current understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying the function of MIS both as a fetal gonadal hormone that causes Müllerian duct regression and as an adult hormone, the roles for which are currently being investigated.
Book ChapterDOI
Germ Cell Tumors of the Ovary
TL;DR: This group of ovarian neoplasms is composed of a number of histologically different tumor types and embraces all the neoplasm considered to be ultimately derived from the primitive germ cells of the embryonic gonad.

Endometrial carcinoma of the ovary, arising in endometrial tissue in that organ
TL;DR: Many interesting and important problems have presented themselves to clinicians and pathologists, who have appreciated the frequency of ectopic endometrium-like tissue in the pelvis and have had an opportunity to observe the various lesions in the ovaries and other pelvic structures resulting from this tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adenocarcinoma of the vagina in adolescence. A report of 7 cases including 6 clear-cell carcinomas (so-called mesonephromas).
TL;DR: Seven cases of adenocarcinoma of the vagina occurring in young women 15 to 22 years of age are reported and radical surgery with vaginal replacement and ovarian conservation appears to have been a safe and effective method of therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histogenesis of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid.
TL;DR: It is suggested that medullary carcinoma is also derived from a parafollicular cell and that this origin would resolve the discrepancy between the relatively good prognosis and the apparently undifferentiated structure of this tumour.
