Journal ArticleDOI
Farmers' perceptions of climate change and agricultural adaptation strategies in rural Sahel
TL;DR: It is concluded that the communities studied have a high awareness of climate issues, but climatic narratives are likely to influence responses when questions mention climate, and policy-making on agricultural and economic development will be to focus on providing flexible options rather than specific solutions to uncertain climate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Particulate matter, air quality and climate: Lessons learned and future needs
Sandro Fuzzi,Urs Baltensperger,Kenneth S. Carslaw,Stefano Decesari,H.A.C. Denier van der Gon,Maria Cristina Facchini,David Fowler,Ilan Koren,Ben Langford,Ulrike Lohmann,Eiko Nemitz,Spyros N. Pandis,Ilona Riipinen,Yinon Rudich,Martijn Schaap,Jay G. Slowik,Dominick V. Spracklen,Elisabetta Vignati,Martin Wild,Martin L. Williams,Stefania Gilardoni +20 more
TL;DR: The literature on atmospheric particulate maffer (PM), or atmospheric aerosol, has increased enormously over the last 2 decades and amounts now to some 1500-2000 papers per year in the refereed literature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate Change Effects on Runoff, Catchment Phosphorus Loading and Lake Ecological State, and Potential Adaptations
Erik Jeppesen,Brian Kronvang,Mariana Meerhoff,Martin Søndergaard,Kristina Hansen,Hans Estrup Andersen,Torben L. Lauridsen,Lone Liboriussen,Meryem Beklioglu,Arda Özen,Jørgen E. Olesen +10 more
TL;DR: The critical loading for good ecological state in lakes has to be lowered in a future warmer climate, which calls for adaptation measures, which in the northern temperate zone should include improved P cycling in agriculture, reduced loading from point sources, and (re)-establishment of wetlands and riparian buffer zones.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potential climate-change impacts on the Chesapeake Bay
Raymond G. Najjar,Christopher R. Pyke,Mary Beth Adams,Denise L. Breitburg,Carl Hershner,Michael Kemp,Robert W. Howarth,Margaret R. Mulholland,Michael Paolisso,David H. Secor,Kevin G. Sellner,Denice H. Wardrop,Robert Wood +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the potential impact of climate change on the Chesapeake Bay watershed is reviewed. And the authors suggest that the magnitude of these changes is sensitive to the CO 2 emission trajectory, so that actions taken now to reduce CO2 emissions will reduce climate impacts on the Bay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple stressors on biotic interactions: how climate change and alien species interact to affect pollination
Oliver Schweiger,Jacobus C. Biesmeijer,Riccardo Bommarco,Thomas Hickler,Philip E. Hulme,Stefan Klotz,Ingolf Kühn,Mari Moora,Anders Nielsen,Ralf Ohlemüller,Theodora Petanidou,Simon G. Potts,Petr Pyšek,Jane C. Stout,Martin T. Sykes,Thomas Tscheulin,Montserrat Vilà,Gian-Reto Walther,Catrin Westphal,Catrin Westphal,Marten Winter,Marten Winter,Martin Zobel,Josef Settele +23 more
TL;DR: It is found that both climate change and alien species will ultimately lead to the creation of novel communities, and certain interactions may no longer occur while there will also be potential for the emergence of new relationships.
