TL;DR: The evacuation simulation of subway station can effectively improve the evacuation speed, improve the ability of subway operators to deal with emergencies and reduce the time required for passenger evacuation in peak flow.
Abstract: In order to improve the evacuation ability of the transfer station in Subway network operation, this research selected a complex subway transfer station, analyzed facilities and equipment of this transfer station, based on the social force model, the AnyLogic software was applied to simulate the emergency evacuation, calculated the time required for passenger evacuation in peak flow, the simulation time of each evacuation channel was obtained, the evacuation time can be shorten after the evacuation method had been improved. The evacuation simulation of subway station can effectively improve the evacuation speed, improve the ability of subway operators to deal with emergencies.

TL;DR: Numerically simulated the crowd dynamics during fire evacuation in the Haicang Avenue Subway Station in Xiamen with uniqueness of the case study is that this subway station is built as the starting connection of a cross-sea bridge at the seashore.
Abstract: Due to the underground nature and dense concentration of people around transit stations, emergency evacuation during fire accidents can become a noticeable problem in subways. This study numerically simulated the crowd dynamics during fire evacuation in the Haicang Avenue Subway Station in Xiamen. The uniqueness of the case study is that this subway station is built as the starting connection of a cross-sea bridge at the seashore. Total evacuation time was affected by factors such as the width of the evacuation channel, proximity to exits, crowd density, and evacuation speed. Parameters in the computer modelling were obtained through proportional measurement algorithms and on-the-spot investigations, video recording, and personnel tracking at a mirror station. The study simulated the evacuation process in four scenarios using variables such as the number of passengers and width of evacuation stairs. When crowd dispersion increases, a longer evacuation time is needed. Suggestions are made to optimise the positions of outlets and to increase the width of exits to alleviate congestion.

TL;DR: This study models the facilities in metro station including gates, stairs, passageways, entrances and exits, and simulates the process of fire spread and the passenger evacuation scenarios by the model of cellular automata and can provide basis for reconstruction of station facilities and layout design of the station.
Abstract: Evaluating the evacuation capacity of metro station under emergencies such as fires, as well as improving the emergency protection capability of rail transit system, is an important part of rail transit operation management. Based on the analysis of the impact of different factors on passenger's behavior under fire evacuation in metro station, this study models the facilities in metro station including gates, stairs, passageways, entrances and exits, and simulates the process of fire spread and the passenger evacuation scenarios by the model of cellular automata. A case study is brought out to illustrate the impact of different factors on evacuation capacity and evaluate the rationality of the station layout. The simulation result can provide basis for reconstruction of station facilities and layout design of the station.

TL;DR: Computer simulations of crowds of interacting pedestrians show that the social force model is capable of describing the self-organization of several observed collective effects of pedestrian behavior very realistically.
Abstract: It is suggested that the motion of pedestrians can be described as if they would be subject to ``social forces.'' These ``forces'' are not directly exerted by the pedestrians' personal environment, but they are a measure for the internal motivations of the individuals to perform certain actions (movements). The corresponding force concept is discussed in more detail and can also be applied to the description of other behaviors. In the presented model of pedestrian behavior several force terms are essential: first, a term describing the acceleration towards the desired velocity of motion; second, terms reflecting that a pedestrian keeps a certain distance from other pedestrians and borders; and third, a term modeling attractive effects. The resulting equations of motion of nonlinearly coupled Langevin equations. Computer simulations of crowds of interacting pedestrians show that the social force model is capable of describing the self-organization of several observed collective effects of pedestrian behavior very realistically.
