TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focused on the corrosion of sucker rod steel 20Ni2Mo in different concentrations or temperatures of H2S and analyzed the appearance of corrosive surface scanned by scanning electron microscope.
Abstract: Among the factors to cause the corrosion in oil and gas fields, H2S is the most common and harmful corrosive medium. During oil field exploitation, enhancing the ability of the sucker rods to resist corrosion is the key measure of prolonging the service life of sucker rods and guarantee of safe operation of petroleum equipment. This paper focuses on the corrosion of sucker rod steel 20Ni2Mo in different concentrations or temperatures of H2S. The appearance of corrosive surface scanned by scanning electron microscope was analyzed and theoretic basis for anti-corrosion and material-selecting of sucker rods used in the oil fields was provided. The result shows that the concentration and temperature of H2S have interaction on the corrosion of 20Ni2Mo, i.e., with the increase of concentration under same temperature or with the rise of temperature under same concentration, the corrosion rate of 20Ni2Mo accelerates.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed the original design of a shock absorber of a sucker-rod string, which used thin plate packages as a bearing elastic element of the shock absorbers.
Abstract: Sucker-rod pump plant operation is accompanied by inertial and shock loads, affecting the fatigue strength of sucker rods and causing possible accidents. This work proposes the original design of a shock absorber of a sucker-rod string. The peculiarity of the proposed design is the usage of thin plate packages as a bearing elastic element of the shock absorber. This approach to the elastic element’ design provides the shock absorber to be easy to manufacture and operate. Sucker-rod string protection from extra load will increase the sucker-rod pump plant efficiency in general. This study aims at developing shock absorber’s design and studying its most important performance options—strength and rigidity. A mechanical and mathematical model of a shock absorber’s elastic element was developed in order to specify its deformation. A package of thin plates was modelled as an equivalent solid plate with a cylindrical rigidity providing equal properties of the solid model and the plate package. This model makes possible to describe analytically the stress-strain state of the shock absorber bearing elements. The work presents the final expressions of the shock absorber’s strength and rigidity assessing in a convenient form for engineering practice. The numerical approbation of the obtained analytical results was carried out as the case of a plate elastic element. The authors give recommendation on the bearing unit’s design of the shock absorber.

TL;DR: In this paper, the UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) liner tube is used to reduce the wear and corrosion rate of N80 tube.
Abstract: Aimed at the serious problem of N80 tubing failure in the drainage of CBM (Coal bed methane) well, it can define the failure into two types: eccentric failure wear and the corrosion failure, through analyzing the well space structure, the stress and the chemical reaction on the tube in the coal bed water. The main reason is well deviation, instability of rod string and rod vibration. It makes sucker rod contacts with the N80 tube, when the sucker rod is up and down, the friction exists between the sucker rod and the tube, which leads to the tube wear out. Corrosion failure may happened in the condition that there are some acid anions in the coal seam water, such as HS-, S2-, Cl-, HCO3-, SO42-, CO32-, etc. These ions react with N80 tubing that corrodes and destroys the N80 tube. In this paper, we suggest to replace the N80 tube with the UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) liner tube. This is capable to reduce the wear and corrosion rate effectively. The field tests show that it is still useful over 600 days, which means that the serving life of UHMWPE liner tube can be increased over 50 percent than others. Therefore, it has a significant meaning to popularize UHMWPE liner tube in the CBM well.

TL;DR: In this article, the H2S corrosion mechanism and influence factors are discussed, and the techniques and processes against H 2S corrosion are put forward to prevent accidents and boost economic benefits.
Abstract: H2S corrosion exists widely in petroleum, natural gas, coal chemical and other industries. Not only is H2S able to cause local corrosion or complete corrosion, but also H2S induces brittle fracture accidents such as sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC ) and hydrogen induced cracking (HIC ).Once such an accident happens,it often brings heavy economic losses and catastrophic results. Therefore the investigation on H2S corrosion mechanism, influence factors and anticorrosion measures is significant to prevent accidents and boost economic benefits. In this paper, the H2S corrosion mechanism and influence factors are discussed, and the techniques and processes against H2S corrosion are put forward.

TL;DR: In this paper , the corrosion behavior of material type (HL) and process-type (HY) super-strength sucker rod steels 11Mn2SiCrMoA (BZ-11H) and 30CrMoAs in a high sulfide-containing solution is investigated.
Abstract: Corrosion behavior of material-type (HL) and process-type (HY) super-strength sucker rod steels 11Mn2SiCrMoA (BZ-11H) and 30CrMoA in a high sulfide-containing solution is investigated by electrochemical measurement, weight loss method, electron probe micro analysis (EPMA), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (BZ-11H) analysis, respectively. The results show that BZ-11H steel has a higher corrosion resistance than 30CrMoA in the near neutral high sulfide environment. EDX and XRD analysis results indicate that the corrosion processes of these two materials are mainly controlled by the small amount of alloy elements they contain, which also determine the contents of corrosion product deposits and the difference in corrosion rates. The interactions between Fe, SO42−, CO2 and O2 lead to the formation of FeS, FeCO3 and Fe2O3, and consequently cause the difference in corrosion rate or corrosion resistance.

Abstract: The upper part of hydrogen blister on the surface ofα-Fe can be tear off through sticking a layer of melting Cu-Ag alloy and extending, then the fracture surface of the blister can be analyzed by SEM and EDS.The results show that the hydrogen blister is a void with H_2 and inclusions appeared at about 88% of the blister nucleus, meaning the void formed preferentially at the interface of inclusions and matrix. When the hydrogen pressure in the blister is larger than that of the cohesive strength, which may be decreased by hydrogen, crack will initiate from the wall of the blister, resulting in fracture surface in its interior. With hydrogen entering into the bhster, hydrogen blister grows through crack propagating until it breaks and the hydrogen pressure is released.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the corrosion behavior and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of 35CrMo steel by means of electrochemical measurements and slow strain rate tensile test in an artificial solution with various concentration of H2S, which aimed to simulate the drilling well environments at oil field.
Abstract: The corrosion behavior and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) of 35CrMo steel were examined respectively by means of electrochemical measurements and slow strain rate tensile test in an artificial solution with various concentration of H2S, which aimed to simulate the drilling well environments at oil field. It is shown that 35CrMo steel exhibits a susceptibility to SCC in hydrogen sulfide solutions with pH=5. The susceptibility increases by decreasing the concentration of H2S.When the concentration of H2S reached 200 mg/L, the corrosion electrochemical process of35CrMo steel can be promoted, whilst the steel exhibits obvious susceptibility to SCC. The SCC of35CrMo steel is mainly induced by hydrogen embrittlement(HE) process associated with anodic dissolution(AD) in hydrogen sulfide solutions with pH=5.

Abstract: Corrosion resistance play an important role in the reliability of pipeline steels, and HIC(Hydrogen Induced Cracking) is one of failure forms for pipeline. The standard NACE TM0284-96 was adopted to study HIC of pipeline steels with different chemical composition and different fabrication method. The effect of pearlite bands and C,Mn,S on HIC was discussed, the more the pearlite bands, the lower the resistance to HIC,and HIC will develop along the banding microstructure. Moreover, with the increase of elements C,Mn,S,the resistance to HIC will be decreased, meanwhile,Mn and S easily form inclusions, segregation bands that will lead to HIC.
