TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and found that EO positively affects performance of SMEs.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to measure the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and performance of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The aim is to contribute to the extant literature about the role of EO for SMEs development, and more specifically to identify implications that can inform knowledge-based initiatives of entrepreneurship universities focussing on the development and diffusion of the entrepreneurial culture and capacity.,This research paper adopts a quantitative approach to investigate a conceptual framework linking EO to SME’s performance. The central postulated hypothesis is that EO positively affects performance of SMEs. This hypothesis has been tested by using a system of partial least squares of structural equations modelling, adopting the SmartPLS® 3.0 software (Ringle et al., 2015). The empirical context analysed 170 SMEs operating in the Bajio Region (Mexico) in the leather–footwear sector.,The results provide evidence that Mexican companies that manifest EO have a positive effect on their firm performance. Similarly, findings emphasise that both risk taking and innovativeness are currently the central axes of EO for the analysed companies. Accordingly, entrepreneurial universities should be engaged in the development of EO of students, academic staff and companies by focussing on knowledge-based actions that can foster the improvement of some specific features of the EO.,The results provide insights about the relationships between EO and the performance of SMEs indicating that potentials initiatives of entrepreneurship universities aiming to support the development capacity of SMEs as well as of students and academic staff should be focussed on the critical dimensions characterising EO.,This paper provides insights into the role of EO for SMEs performance. It provides three main contributions. First, derived from literature research, it proposes a working definition of EO. Second, the empirical research findings support an understanding of the relationship between EO and Mexican SMEs performance and propose a multiple and reflective dimension of EO’s model. Moreover, finally, this research provides some implications for entrepreneurship universities aiming to create and diffuse an entrepreneurial culture and capabilities by fostering the development of the EO.

TL;DR: A special issue on Strategic Knowledge Management (KM) Models and Tools for the Entrepreneurial Universities and future topics for KM in the evolving context of universities is presented in this paper.
Abstract: Purpose: This editorial outlines the contributions collected in this special issue on Strategic Knowledge Management (KM) Models and Tools for the Entrepreneurial Universities and identify future topics for KM in the evolving context of universities. Methodology: The reasoning and motivation behind the special issue are outlined, and then we present a discussion linking the different papers and themes found in the special issue papers. Findings: The Editorial presents an overview of the papers gathered in the special issue and provides future directions for research lying at the intersection of KM and Entrepreneurial University fields. Implications for research: The editorial aims to identify insights that can inspire future research about KM models and tools in the Entrepreneurial Universities. To remain relevant KM in Entrepreneurial Universities research should be revamped by addressing the implications for policymakers, to avoid the risks of relegating the KM in Entrepreneurial Universities research to irrelevance.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify dimensions, mechanisms, and steps for entrepreneurial universities as well as establishing a strategy and plans for universities such as Qassim University or the College of Business and Economics (CBE).
Abstract: Article history: Received: October 26, 2019 Received in revised format: November 28 2019 Accepted: December 26, 2019 Available online: December 26, 2019 Entrepreneurial universities can be considered a new topic that needs greater attention. Many researchers believe that universities can and must have a more important cultural and economic impact. This study seeks to develop and analyze entrepreneurial universities profile using entrepreneurial orientations in order to define an integrative process for entrepreneurial universities. This involves identifying dimensions, mechanisms, and steps for entrepreneurial universities as well as establishing a strategy and plans for universities such as Qassim University or the College of Business and Economics (CBE). To achieve this objective, this study adopted a quantitative approach based on a questionnaire. Data was collected from 210 respondents who were practitioners and academics to discover the effect of the influential factors and entrepreneurial university orientation on the entrepreneurship and innovativeness indexes. The collected data was analyzed using AMOS 24SEM with a moderating effect. The findings revealed that CBE, in line with strategic planning and the importance of entrepreneurship in Vision 2030, tended towards developing an entrepreneurial orientation and integrated some good practices for the integrative process for entrepreneurial universities (IPEU). The main contribution of this paper was the identification of a path diagram and adequate practices for achieving entrepreneurial university standards. Overall, the findings explicate the importance of this step in terms of cultural, economic, and social impacts. If the findings of this study are tenaciously implemented, this may help Qassim University move towards a higher level of excellence and competitiveness based on entrepreneurship actions. Entrepreneurial university orientation seems to be important for the development of this process. In other words, to become entrepreneurial we must, in the first step, integrate this new approach to determine how to use resources and factors. © 2020 by the authors; licensee Growing Science, Canada

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed an analysis, involving the observation of the dimensions of entrepreneurial universities, in order to enhance performance in development of innovation and entrepreneurial skills in students in North-East region of Romania, with the aim to raise the region's competitive edge.
Abstract: Abstract In the dynamic changing environment, entrepreneurial universities have been playing an increasingly important role for socio-economic innovation and development. The aim of this study is to perform an analysis, involving the observation of the dimensions of entrepreneurial universities. We consider that nowadays the evaluation of universities should take into consideration the tools that school leaders, professors and students may use to evaluate teaching programs in innovation and entrepreneurship. As a result of the fact that the tertiary education institutions are appreciated by the way they relate to the social and economic needs and characteristics of the individuals, the Romanian universities are currently pursuing and trying to undergo a development process making the shift from a classical university to an entrepreneurial university. Specific literature has argued that the dynamic culture of the entrepreneurial university encourage students and graduates to new innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives and increase their employability. The purpose of the current paper is to inspire debates and actual steps to be taken so as higher education institutions in Romania to become even more competitive and support economic growth by fully embracing the role of entrepreneurial universities. Research methodology includes the application of the questionnaire conceived by the HEInnovate team in two universities from Romania, authors comparing the results through a qualitative analysis and interpretation within the European framework. Results underline a similarity between the responses among the seven pillars of HEInnovate tool, but given the area of influence we identify the gaps and propose specific recommendations for short and long-term future. The conclusions of paper area meant to enhance performance in development of innovation and entrepreneurial skills in students in North-East region of Romania, with the aim to raise the region’s competitive edge.
