TL;DR: A vehicle access communicator (VAC) capable of interfacing with one or more functions of a rental vehicle and a user provided portable electronic device is described in this article, which can control various functions of the vehicle including, but not limited to, the door locks and/or enabling/disabling the vehicle.
Abstract: A system for renting vehicles is disclosed. The system can comprise a vehicle access communicator (“VAC”) capable of interfacing with one or more functions of a rental vehicle and a user provided portable electronic device. The VAC can control various functions of the vehicle including, but not limited to, the door locks and/or enabling/disabling the vehicle. The VAC can also monitor various functions of the vehicle including, but not limited to, the fuel level and/or the odometer readings. The VAC can connect to the portable electronic device using a suitable connection method to access additional functionality such as, for example and not limitation, locations services, cellular, and/or internet access. The VAC and the portable electronic device can be used to provide a rental system with reduced infrastructure and operating costs. The system can enable the use of “Green Zones” to provide permanent or temporary vehicle rental areas.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for testing and evaluating a response of an automotive radar system for a specific automotive safety scenario is presented, where the system generates a simulated reflected radar signature corresponding to at least one virtual target in a specific virtual scenario.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for testing and evaluating a response of an automotive radar system for a specific automotive safety scenario, wherein the method and system generates a simulated reflected radar signature corresponding to at least one virtual target in a specific virtual scenario. The simulated radar signature is generated from one or more of: a pre-recorded real reflected radar signature from at least one real target in a specific real scenario, an analytical representation of a radar target signature from at least one virtual target in a specific virtual scenario.

TL;DR: In this paper, a sensor cluster may be inserted into the walls of a smart structure to detect an array of conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and the presence of undesirable insects.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for smart construction with automated detection of adverse structure conditions and remediation. A sensor cluster may be inserted into the walls of a smart structure (during construction or afterwards) to detect an array of conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and the presence of undesirable insects (which may be accomplished through, for example, vibration sensors). The sensor cluster may also have a remedial action device capable of resolving any undesirable conditions. For example, upon detection of wood-destroying organisms via vibration sensors, the remedial action device may deploy ultraviolet light or insecticide to automatically exterminate the wood-destroying organisms. In some embodiments, data from the sensor cluster may be displayed on a graphical user interface.

Abstract: A portable geodetic surveying station is disclosed which utilizes a GPS antenna attached to the top portion of a surveyor's stake, or other type monopod. By positioning the bottom portion of the monopod directly upon a desired ground location, and adjusting the angular position of the monopod so that it is precisely vertical, the GPS antenna may be quickly and accurately positioned level and directly above the desired ground location. Additionally, because the monopod has a known, fixed length, the height of the GPS antenna above the desired ground location will always be a constant, and will not vary from one survey point to the next. The GPS antenna and monopod are designed to be used in conjunction with a newly designed geodetic surveying tripod which can be quickly and conveniently set up to support the monopod in its vertical position directly above the desired ground location. The tripod of the present invention includes a tripod head which comprises a base platform, a first housing slidably mounted on the platform to permit the first housing to move along a first directional path, and a second housing slidably mounted within the first housing to permit the second housing to move along a second directional path, generally orthogonal to the first directional path. Mounted pivotally within the second housing is a gimbal which includes a central cavity for receiving the shaft of the monopod. The gimbal allows the angular position of the monopod and GPS antenna to be adjusted independently of the angular position tripod platform.
