Performance evaluation of end-to-end security protocols in an Internet of Things
Antonio De Rubertis,Luca Mainetti,Vincenzo Mighali,Luigi Patrono,Ilaria Sergi,Maria Laura Stefanizzi,Stefano Pascali +6 more
TL;DR: A performance comparison between two of the most widely used security protocols: IPSec and DTLS is presented and the analysis of their impact on the resources of embedded devices is provided.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Detecting packet-dropping faults in mobile ad-hoc networks
TL;DR: Simulations of mobile ad-hoc networks that contain malicious nodes indicate that unobtrusive monitoring has a high detection effectiveness with low false positive rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
The CRUTIAL reference critical information infrastructure architecture: a blueprint
TL;DR: This paper proposes the blueprint of a distributed systems architecture that it believes may come to be useful as a reference for modern CII in general and is instantiated with set of classes oftechniquesandalgorithms, providing resilience to faults and attacks in an automatic way.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
IPSec hardware resource requirements evaluation
TL;DR: It is shown that enabling IPSec in a 100 Mbit/s network kills its performance in almost every case, which leads to the conclusion that while a hardware crypto-accelerator is really key in reaching high performance, it may also be useful in small, slow systems where it would help improving performance and security.
Book ChapterDOI
Practical Electromagnetic Template Attack on HMAC
TL;DR: A very efficient side channel attack against HMAC that assumes the presence of a side channel that reveals the Hamming distance of some registers and can be used to break the secrecy of network protocols usually implemented on embedded devices.

New Directions in Cryptography
TL;DR: This paper suggests ways to solve currently open problems in cryptography, and discusses how the theories of communication and computation are beginning to provide the tools to solve cryptographic problems of long standing.
Key words for use in RFCs to Indicate Requirement Levels
TL;DR: This document defines these words as they should be interpreted in IETF documents as well as providing guidelines for authors to incorporate this phrase near the beginning of their document.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using encryption for authentication in large networks of computers
TL;DR: Use of encryption to achieve authenticated communication in computer networks is discussed and example protocols are presented for the establishment of authenticated connections, for the management of authenticated mail, and for signature verification and document integrity guarantee.
Internet Protocol, Version 6 (IPv6) Specification
S. Deering,R. Hinden +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors specify version 6 of the Internet Protocol (IPv6), also referred to as IP Next Generation or IPng, and propose a new protocol called IPng.
Internet Protocol
TL;DR: Along with TCP, IP represents the heart of the Internet protocols and has two primary responsibilities: providing connectionless, best-effort delivery of datagrams through an internetwork; and providing fragmentation and reassembly of data links to support data links with different maximum transmission unit (MTU) sizes.
