Modelling and Seismic Response Analysis of Existing URM Structures. Part 2: Archetypes of Italian Historical Buildings

TL;DR: In this article , the authors present a comprehensive strategy for analysing the complex seismic response of five Italian historical URM buildings, corresponding to different periods until 1920s, using pushover and dynamic analyses of 3D equivalent frame models.
Journal ArticleDOI

A methodological framework to relate the earthquake-induced frequency reduction to structural damage in masonry buildings

TL;DR: In this article , a model-driven vibration-based methodology was proposed to support the assessment of the damage level in masonry buildings hit by earthquakes, where the authors exploited, in the pre-event phase, synthetic equivalent-frame modelling and nonlinear dynamic analyses to systematically relate the gradual reduction of natural frequencies to increasing levels of structural damage.

Seismic Damage Scenarios Induced by Site Effects on Masonry Clustered Buildings: A Case Study in South Italy

TL;DR: In this article , the influence of site effects on the seismic vulnerability of the historical centre of Baranello, a little town in the Molise Region of Italy, was explored, where structural and typological classification of the investigated urban area has been done according to the EMS-98 scale.

Comparing the Observed and Numerically Simulated Seismic Damage: A Unified Procedure for Unreinforced Masonry and Reinforced Concrete Buildings

TL;DR: In this paper , a unified procedure for assessing the effectiveness of modeling strategies for existing buildings is proposed, which is applied to unreinforced masonry and cast-in-place and precast reinforced concrete real buildings struck by earthquakes.

Probabilistic Basis for 2000 SAC Federal Emergency Management Agency Steel Moment Frame Guidelines

TL;DR: In this paper, a formal probabilistic framework for seismic design and assessment of structures and its application to steel moment-resisting frame buildings is presented, based on realizing a performance objective expressed as the probability of exceeding a specified performance level.

The behavior of inverted pendulum structures during earthquakes

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis is made of the rocking motion of structures of inverted pendulum type during the Chilean earthquakes of May, 1960, and it is shown that there is a scale effect which makes tall slender structures more stable against overturning than might have been expected.

Displacement-based seismic analysis for out-of-plane bending of unreinforced masonry walls

TL;DR: In this article, a simplified linearized displacement-based procedure is presented along with recommendations for the selection of an appropriate substitute structure in order to provide the most representative analytical results for assessing the seismic resistance of brick masonry walls subject to out-of-plane bending.
