TLDR
The potential application of embedded fiber optic Bragg grating sensors for health monitoring of adhesively bonded composite ship joints is investigated in this article, where Bragg sensors were embedded at various locations along the interface of glass-reinforced plastic composite joints with artificially introduced disbonds to assess their capability to detect bond line damage under in-plane shear and through-thickness tension.

Fiber optic sensors

TL;DR: In this paper, a dielectric filter is applied directly to the sensing end of an optical fiber detector which has the characteristic that it reflects back a reference light beam of one wavelength while passing a sensing signal of a different wavelength which is modulated in some predetermined fashion beyond the filter.

Damage assessment and monitoring of composite ship joints

TL;DR: In this paper, a typical monolithic glass fibre reinforced polymer composite T-joint is modeled and tested for structural health monitoring (SHM) and the performance of embedded optical fiber Bragg sensors in such joints has been shown to be satisfactory and the effects of artificially induced disbonds on the strain distribution have been determined via finite element modelling and have been experimentally verified.

Strain-based Structural Health Monitoring of Complex Composite Structures

TL;DR: In this paper, a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system for a 2D polymeric composite T-joint, used in maritime structures, is presented, which is capable of detecting the presence of multiple delaminations in a composite structure, and also capable of determining the location and extent of all the delamination.

Damage monitoring of CFRP stiffened panels under compressive load using FBG sensors

TL;DR: In this paper, the main impact damage was an interlaminar delamination inside the skin, which could be observed by an ultrasonic C-scan, which was more effective in evaluating the impact damages in detail than that using the center wavelength.
