TLDR
Overall, results show that microplastics modulate either the bioavailability or biotransformation of pyrene, and simultaneous exposure to microplastic and pyrene decrease the energy available through the aerobic pathway of energy production; andmicroplastics inhibit AChE activity.

Uptake and Accumulation of Polystyrene Microplastics in Zebrafish (Danio rerio) and Toxic Effects in Liver.

TL;DR: The uptake and tissue accumulation of polystyrene microplastics in zebrafish were detected, and the toxic effects in liver were investigated, showing that both 5 μm and 70 nm PS-MPs caused inflammation and lipid accumulation in fish liver.

Interactions of microplastic debris throughout the marine ecosystem

TL;DR: The concept of microplastic as a complex, dynamic mixture of polymers and additives, to which organic material and contaminants can successively bind to form an ‘ecocorona’, increasing the density and surface charge of particles and changing their bioavailability and toxicity is developed.
