Abstract: Electricity is one of the invaluable resources for ages. It is the most fundamental entity for each and every technical process in today’s life. In almost all the developed countries, governments have implemented automated and smart energy meters to monitor and assess the usage of electricity in every house and industry. But in developing countries like India, these systems are yet to be initialized because the proper methodology and cost-efficient energy meter systems are yet to be introduced. Also, the assessor visits each house to read the meter readings, which makes the assessment inaccurate and prone to many other complications. So we propose a system that is intended to monitor Domestic Energy Meters remotely i.e. to automate the domestic energy meters. This methodology employs an Arduino microcontroller module and a GSM900 module without the use of any peripherals such as LDR’s and optocouplers like other automated energy meters do. Thus the system enables automatic reading of the power consumed in an efficient and reliable fashion than the others. The project aimed is expected to receive monthly energy consumption from a remote location to a centralized EB office.

Abstract: Considering the frequent use of mobile phones, we have directed attention to possible implications on cognitive functions. In this study we investigated in a rat model the long-term effects of protracted exposure to Global System for Mobile Communication-900 MHz (GSM-900) radiation. Out of a total of 56 rats, 32 were exposed for 2 h each week for 55 weeks to radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation at different SAR levels (0.6 and 60 mW/kg at the initiation of the experimental period) emitted by a (GSM-900) test phone. Sixteen animals were sham exposed and eight animals were cage controls, which never left the animal house. After this protracted exposure, GSM-900 exposed rats were compared to sham exposed controls. Effects on exploratory behaviour were evaluated in the open-field test, in which no difference was seen. Effects on cognitive functions were evaluated in the episodic-like memory test. In our study, GSM exposed rats had impaired memory for objects and their temporal order of presentation, compared to sham exposed controls (P = 0.02). Detecting the place in which an object was presented was not affected by GSM exposure. Our results suggest significantly reduced memory functions in rats after GSM microwave exposure (P = 0.02).

Abstract: Emerging environmental related problems have greater impact on technical, scientific, social and economical fields, which is why this issue needs attention. On a global scale this issue are being sort out using satellite based instruments. This paper discusses a monitoring system which gives information about environmental conditions on a more local level, the implementation area are categorize by industrial, home and office applications and briefly touches the technological advancements in monitoring the environment and bringing out the new scope in monitoring the current environment problems. This paper intends to provide information using wireless sensor technology which comprises of raspberry pi, Arduino Nano, Zigbee, wireless sensor network(WSN) and sensors. Realization of data gathered by sensors based on embedded raspbian Linux is displayed on Graphical User Interface (GUI). The system is developed using open source hardware raspberry pi and Zigbee which proves to be cost effective and having low power consumption. The sensors will gather the data of various environmental parameters and provide it to raspberry pi which act as a base station. Some sensors will directly process the data and provide it to the raspberry pi while some sensors will provide the data through Arduino Nano to raspberry pi using serial interface. The raspberry pi will then transmit the data using Zigbee and the processed data will be displayed on GUI through Zigbee that is on the receiver side.

Abstract: Electricity is one of the basic requirements of human beings, which is widely used for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes. There is a great demand for electricity and in spite of very well developed alternate sources for electricity, there are lot of problems in connection with distribution and metering. The traditional electro-mechanical meters, still widely used today are prone to drift over temperature and time as a result of mechanical nature of the components in the meter. The problem worsens further in collecting the meter readings and generating the bill. In this paper we suggest a method where we utilize telecommunication systems for automated transmission of data to facilitate bill generation and payment of the same at the customerspsila place.
