Refinement and User Acceptance Test of Accounting Information System for Restaurants SMEs

Abstract: This study seeks to improve accounting information system (AIS) application specially built for restaurants small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have been developed and tested to the user, as well as demonstrate the feasibility of the applications that have been enhanced when viewed in terms of functionality, performance, and usability. Enhanced AIS is the result of system development that have been developed, that requires three years to complete all the stages involving 179 restaurants in JABODETABEK for the user requirements analysis phase and processed using Quality Function Deployment (QFD). The research model used is a model of Research Development. The study focused on the study of designing, developing, and evaluating AIS applications for restaurant SMEs and improving it. Feasibility of restaurant AIS quality was measured in terms of functionality using TOFTS and FETs, in terms of performance measured using paired sample t-test test, and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA), and in terms of usability measured using Computer System Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ). The research showed that enhanced AIS applications for restaurant SMEs can be used to perform restaurants data processing ranging from Point of Sales (POS) transaction to accounting reporting and has a very good percentage of functionality quality. The AIS application had a very good appearance and value of the application performance is very satisfying, and also has an excellent value of usability.

Performance Evaluation of accounting information system for restaurants smes in JABODETABEK

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the performance of implementation results of the accounting information system application named “Aplikasi POS Kuliner UKM” which has been specially built for restaurant SMEs in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (JABODETABEK) over two years of development and implementation. From 179 restaurants in JABODETABEK surveyed at system requirements analysis stage, 15 restaurant SMEs selected for the implementation phase, but has yet to be evaluated. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the utilization of “Aplikasi POS Kuliner UKM” by selected restaurant SMEs to understand the shortcomings and conformity with the user requirements. This evaluation is measured using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test, and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method. Results from paired sample t-test shows that already fit between the expectations and reality. Evaluation results using IPA known indicators that must be corrected, maintained, and ignored, it is also known that the performance of AIS already exceed consumer expectations on average. Additional survey results shows that the AIS has good facilities and satisfactory application performance.

Abstract: Perencanaan sumber daya manusian (SDM) merupakan serangkaian kegiatan yang dilakukan untuk mengantisipasi permintaan-permintaan bisnis dan lingkungan pada organisasi di waktu yang akan datang dan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan-kebutuhan tenaga kerja yang ditimbulkan oleh kondisi-kondisi tersebut. Secara singkat perencanaan SDM berarti mengestimasi secara sistematik permintaan (kebutuhan) dan suplai tenaga kerja organisasi di waktu yang akan datang. Hal ini memungkinkan department personalia untuk menyediakan tenaga kerja untuk kebutuhan jangka pendek (1 tahun) maupun jangka panjang (> 5 tahun). Perencanaan SDM memungkinkan organisasi untuk : 1) Memperbaiki penggunaan SDM; 2) Memadukan kegiatan personalia dan tujuan organisasi di waktu yang akan datang secara efisien; 3) Melakukan pengadaan karyawan secara ekonomis; 4) Mengembangkan informasi dasar manajemen personalia untuk membantu kegiatan-kegiatan personalia dan unit-unit organisasi lainnya; 5) Membantu program penarikan dari pasar tenaga kerja secara sukses; 6) Mengkoordinasikan program manajemen personalia yang berbeda-beda seperti rencana penarikan dan seleksi.

An analysis of the relationship between TQM implementation and organisational performance: evidence from Turkish SMEs

Abstract: Purpose – The principal aim of this paper is to determine the critical factors of total quality management (TQM) and to measure their effect on organizational performance of SMEs operating in Turkish textile industry.Design/methodology/approach – Data for this study was collected using a self‐administered questionnaire that was distributed to 500 SMEs in textile industry in the city of Istanbul in Turkey selected randomly from the database of Turkish Small Business Administration (KOSGEB). Of the 500 questionnaires posted, a total of 163 questionnaires were returned.Findings – Using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, seven empirically validated dimensions of TQM were identified. The structural equation modelling technique was employed to investigate the relationship between the implementation of TQM practices and organizational performance. The effect of TQM on performance in R&D environments: A perspective from South Korean firms

Abstract: This paper presents an empirical study, which examines the effectiveness of Total Quality Management (TQM) practices in R&D environments by demonstrating the effect of TQM practices on R&D performance in terms of product quality and product innovation. Despite numerous studies of the relationship between TQM and organisational performance, little research has been done on the relationship between TQM and R&D performance. This study used data from 130 R&D divisions of Korean manufacturing firms. Two research questions were posed, with the first pertaining to the implementation of TQM principles in R&D environments and the second focusing on the effect of TQM on R&D performance. TQM practices were measured by six criteria of Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and R&D performance measures consist of quality and innovation aspects. Using structural equation modelling techniques, the findings showed the integration of the implementation of TQM practices in R&D divisions as well as the significant contribution of TQM to R&D performance. These findings suggest that TQM as a set of generic principles can be adapted in environments other than manufacturing or production areas.

Professional accountants and the development of a management accounting service for the small firm: barriers and possibilities

Abstract: This paper reports the results of a qualitative study examining the potential for the provision of a management accounting service for smaller companies by accountants in professional practice. The study aimed to determine the management information needs of owner-managers, the type and frequency of information preferred and the capacity of professional accountants to contribute to these needs. The owner-managers of 15 smaller companies were asked to participate in semi-strucutured interviews during which their use of computers to provide management accounts, their relationship with their accountant and their financial skills were discussed. The respondents were presented with a range of management information including statutory final accounts, interim accounts, cash statements, ratios and graphical comparisons of monthly turnover figures in order to assess their financial information skills and needs. The study found that companies used computers for the preparation of management accounting information, but usually not to their full potential. The financial awareness of owner-managers varied considerably. There was a favourable response to the presentation of ratios and graphs, however, it was felt that an explanation or interpretation of financial information by their accountant would be a useful addition to improve their understanding and therefore aid their business. The study concludes that there appears to be significant potential for accountants to expand the management accounting services they provide to smaller companies, especially where information is presented as ratios or graphs and accompanied with an appropriate narrative interpretation. This would also increase the financial skills of their clients and result in an increased demand for management accounting services.
