04 Mar 2016-pp 1-6
TL;DR: In this article, a new FPA-based solar PV parameter extraction method was proposed to avoid computational burden and complexity, single diode modeling is preferred to avoid the computational complexity.
Abstract: over a decade, the research interest in solar energy is considerably increased, since it is one of the most promising alternate for decaying fossil fuel. Among the research thrusts, the accurate modeling of solar I–V characteristics is given prior importance. In this article, the authors have proposed a new FPA based solar PV parameter extraction. To avoid computational burden and complexity, single diode modeling is preferred. Solar PV parameters are computed using FPA method. The computed root mean square error and relative error is compared with existing simulated annealing, Pattern search, Genetic algorithm and particle swam optimization techniques.

TL;DR: In this article, a review report on common MPPT techniques used for solar and wind applications for hybrid power generation have not yet been reported and an economic analysis is arrived for MPPT methods based on (i) Capacity utilization factor (ii) Cost (iii) Energy savings (iv) payback period (v) Income generated and (vi) stability.
Abstract: Increased penetration of wind and solar PV system in Distributed Generation (DG) and isolated micro grid environment necessitates the use of maximum power point tracking method for wind and solar PV resources. Considering the change in environmental conditions and non-linearity, a variety of publications reporting various MPPT algorithms for solar and wind energy systems are put forward in recent times. But the review reports on common MPPT techniques used for solar and wind applications for hybrid power generation have not yet been reported. Hence, in this paper, conventional techniques and artificial intelligent techniques found extensively used in the power generation platform are peerly reviewed and compared. Historical MPPT methods like Perturb & Observe (P&O) / Hill Climbing, Incremental Conductance (INC), Fuzzy and Neural Network methods benchmarked in MPPT province are comprehensively compared in a common platform. In addition to the common existing techniques, recent swarm intelligence and bio-inspired techniques in solar PV and sensor less adaptive techniques in wind MPPT are also been reviewed provided for quality assessment. Finally an economic analysis is arrived for MPPT methods based on (i) Capacity utilization factor (ii) Cost (iii) Energy Savings (iv) payback period (v) Income generated and (vi) stability.

TL;DR: In this article, a new FPA-based solar PV parameter extraction method was proposed, and the computed root mean square error and relative error for the designed model is compared with the existing Simulated Annealing (SA), Pattern Search (PS), Harmony Search (HS), and Artificial Bee Swarm Optimization (ABSO) techniques.
Abstract: Due to the environmental threat toward pollution and continuous depletion in fossil fuels, the world has found its alternate source of energy generation through pollution-free solar energy. Due to the scope in solar PV systems, the research interest has considerably increased. In solar PV research thrusts, the accurate modeling of solar I-V characteristics is given prior importance. In this article, the authors have proposed a new FPA-based solar PV parameter extraction. To appreciate the accuracy in the computation, two diode models are preferred. The authors have used RTC France data to experiment with the effectiveness of FPA. Further, the computed root mean square error and relative error for the designed model is compared with the existing Simulated Annealing (SA), Pattern Search (PS), Harmony Search (HS), and Artificial Bee Swarm Optimization (ABSO) techniques.

TL;DR: In this paper, three array configuration techniques are simulated for an 11kV, 1 MWph PV plant using MATLAB/SIMULINK and compared in terms of power loss, mismatch loss and fill factor under various shading conditions.
Abstract: Non-uniform irradiations or shading conditions affect the output power of photovoltaic array, by causing multiple peaks in its characteristics. To overcome this limitation, several photovoltaic array configurations have been proposed in literature such as Series-Parallel (SP), TotalCross-Tied (TCT) and Bridge-Linked (BL). In this paper, these three array configuration techniques are simulated for an 11kV, 1 MWph PV plant using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Comparative studies for three methods are performed in-terms of power loss, mismatch loss and fill factor under various shade condition. Simulation results show that the TCT configuration generates 56 kW and 100 kW power more than SP and BL respectively for case 1. In case 2, TCT generates additional 54 kW and 46 kW than SP and BL while in case 3, TCT generates additional 4 kW and 17 kW than SP and BL respectively. Simulation results and comparative study confirm that the Total-Cross-Tied configuration has excellent performance and generates more power under wide range of partial shading conditions than Series-Parallel and Bridge-linked configurations.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method of modeling and simulation of photovoltaic arrays by adjusting the curve at three points: open circuit, maximum power, and short circuit.
Abstract: This paper proposes a method of modeling and simulation of photovoltaic arrays. The main objective is to find the parameters of the nonlinear I-V equation by adjusting the curve at three points: open circuit, maximum power, and short circuit. Given these three points, which are provided by all commercial array data sheets, the method finds the best I-V equation for the single-diode photovoltaic (PV) model including the effect of the series and parallel resistances, and warranties that the maximum power of the model matches with the maximum power of the real array. With the parameters of the adjusted I-V equation, one can build a PV circuit model with any circuit simulator by using basic math blocks. The modeling method and the proposed circuit model are useful for power electronics designers who need a simple, fast, accurate, and easy-to-use modeling method for using in simulations of PV systems. In the first pages, the reader will find a tutorial on PV devices and will understand the parameters that compose the single-diode PV model. The modeling method is then introduced and presented in details. The model is validated with experimental data of commercial PV arrays.
