TLDR
An attempt to describe characteristics common to many system simulations, and a discussion of some problems involved in the construction of a digital simulator; and the third concerns problems that arise in the use of such a simulator.Abstract:
Our objective is to discuss the technique of digital system simulation. This procedure has already achieved a considerable stature in industrial and research organizations and promises to attain even greater importance in the future. Yet, with few exceptions 51, the published literature in the area consists of introductory expositions 10 or of descriptions of the solution of a particular problem 7 where the technique itself is correctly relegated to secondary position. The only publication devoted entirely to the topic 12 is a compendium of papers of the latter type with little attempt to summarize or generalize. Simulations are, of course, as varied as the systems which they represent but they do have certain common characteristics and problems. An identification of these problems would at least allow the investigator to anticipate them and plan accordingly.
This paper consists of three sections. The first is an attempt to describe characteristics common to many system simulations; the second is a discussion of some problems involved in the construction of a digital simulator; and the third concerns problems that arise in the use of such a simulator.read more

Agent-Based Modeling in Marketing: Guidelines for Rigor
William Rand,Roland T. Rust +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose guidelines for rigorous agent-based modeling for marketing research, and demonstrate how extensions of the Bass model that would be difficult to carry out using traditional marketing research techniques are possible to implement using a rigorous agentbased approach.

Capturing bottom-up information technology use processes: a complex adaptive systems model
TL;DR: A theoretical framework drawing on the concepts and the analytical tool of complex adaptive systems (CAS) theory is built that encodes a bottom-up IT use process into three interrelated elements: agents that consist of the basic entities of actions in an ITUse process, interactions that refer to the mutually adaptive behaviors of agents, and an environment that represents the social organizational contexts of IT use.

Stochastic Estimation of the Maximum of a Regression Function
J. Kiefer,Jacob Wolfowitz +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors give a scheme whereby, starting from an arbitrary point, one obtains successively $x_2, x_3, \cdots$ such that the regression function converges to the unknown point in probability as n \rightarrow \infty.

Simulation Techniques in Operations Research---A Review
TL;DR: An introductory account of the techniques of simulation is given, to present a few of the leading ideas which have been developed, and to draw attention to what is in fact a very open and somewhat ill-defined subject.
