TLDR
The sperm penetration test is a most valuable supplement to routine semen analysis for male fertility estimation and had the highest discriminant function coefficient of the tested semen properties.Abstract:
Semen samples were examined from 51 fertile men, and from the male partners in 283 infertile marriages. In addition to routine analysis, they were tested for sperm penetration through ovulatory cervical mucus, using the method of Kremer with slight modifications. Comparison of the 2 groups in regard to semen properties showed statistically significant differences between the means for density, percentage of living, motile and abnormal spermatozoa, for motility degree, and for sperm penetration. No significant difference between the means was found for volume, content of fructose and acid phosphatase in the seminal plasma. In the entire series a moderate correlation was found between sperm penetration and percentage of motile spermatozoa, motility degree, density, percentage of living and percentage of abnormal spermatozoa. A low correlation was found between sperm penetration and volume, content of fructose or acid phosphatase in seminal plasma. The variance of sperm penetration due to regression of the o...read more

Isolation of fractions rich in human Y sperm.
TL;DR: The ability to identify the Y chromosome makes possible the collection of data on X and Y sperm, and when human sperm are stained with this fluorochrome and viewed under fluorescence microscopy, approximately half of them reveal a Y body.

A new multiple exposure photography method for objective human spermatozoal motility determination.
TL;DR: This inexpensive, easy to perform, and highly informative technique can be of great value in the routine clinical work-up and in research studies and the average sperm speed may become a new index in any routine semen analysis.

Sperm transport in the human female reproductive tract in relation to semen analysis characteristics and time of ovulation.

TL;DR: Routine semen analyses were apparently completely normal, but the incidence of sperm recovery was still only 49% (22/45), suggesting that a failure of sperm transport may have been a significant causative factor in their infertility.

Prognostic value of in vitro sperm penetration into hormonally standardized human cervical mucus.
TL;DR: To analyze the prognostic value of the sperm cervical mucus penetration test (SC-MPT), fresh semen samples of 99 male patients under infertility investigation were exposed to capillary tubes filled with freshly obtained cervical mucUS of the patients' wives, fertile donors, and bovine CM.

A staining technique for the study of temperature-shock in semen.
TL;DR: The increased staining propensity of dead cells may be used to obtain a quantitative estimate of the proportions of live and dead spermatozoa in freshly ejaculated ram semen, and a technique of staining with Opal Blue and Eosin is described which employs this principle.
