Abstract: Ayant realise neuf longs-metrages entre 1988 et 2007, aussi que plusieurs campagnes publicitaires, video-clips, courts-metrages et projets collectifs, Wong Kar-wai est un des realisateurs contemporains les plus importants actuellement. Issu de l'industrie cinematographique fortement commerciale de Hong Kong, Wong est parvenu a attirer l'attention du circuit international des festivals de cinema avec son style visuel unique et son recit fragmente. Considere par plusieurs critiques comme le poete de la recherche d’identite de Hong Kong apres 1997, Wong Kar-wai defie toutes les tentatives de categorisation. L’etude qui se poursuivit ici a donc pour objet essentiel de fournir une analyse attentive et complete de son oeuvre, tout en se concentrant sur les traits stylistiques qui donnent a ses films une unite. Ces caracteristiques correspondent a une certaine facon de raconter des histoires, de composer des personnages et des recits, de manipuler le temps et d'utiliser des ressources techniques de sorte que ses films offrent une identite coherente. L'objectif est d'analyser les differents composants de ses images pour decouvrir comment ses films communiquent les uns avec les autres afin de creer une identite unique. Pour atteindre cet objectif, je pose comme hypothese de travail que le cinema de Wong est marque par une structure dualiste qui permet a ses films de presenter des qualites contradictoires simultanement. La plupart de mes arguments se concentrent sur le travail du philosophe francais Gilles Deleuze, qui a propose une theorie du cinema divise entre l’image-mouvement et l’image-temps. Je considere que sa theorie fournit un cadre valide sur lequel les films de Wong peuvent etre projetes. Tandis que ma recherche se concentre sur l’interpretation textuelle des films, je profiterais egalement d’une analyse comparative.

Abstract: Objectives: The main objectives of this research included an investigation into (a) the reasons for sports career termination, (b) the support provided to athletes from coaches, family members, partners and friends during sport participation and after their decision to terminate the sporting career and (c) issues involving their adaptation to life after sports.
Method: Data gathered through a combination of semi-structured interviews and in depth life histories from eighteen and two female athletes respectively. The interview schedules were developed in order to generate data relevant to sport career termination issues. Specifically, the questions were guided by Taylor and Ogilvie’s (1994) conceptual model of career termination. Participants were twenty Greek female former elite athletes in track and field athletics who achieved success at the international level. The data were analyzed using a deductive-inductive approach following content analysis procedures.
Results: Thematic categories emerged relevant to reasons for career termination included discord with coach and issues with the sporting community (e.g., athletic federation), as well as burnout. Relationship issues linked to support with coach and family were linked to adaptation to career termination. Finally, in terms of the quality of adaptation the main thematic categories were adjustment difficulties (e.g. lack of interest outside sport) as well as occupational and financial difficulties.
Conclusions: The findings supported the main components of Taylor and Ogilvie’s model. Moreover, the findings provided rich information relevant to what it is contained in each of these components. Overall, the findings suggested that Greek female elite athletes in track and field athletics find it difficult to adjust to life after sport. Interestingly, it transpires that athletes who stayed in touch with their coach and the sport environment generally experienced a better adaptation to post-sport life.

Abstract: It was a loss for Western democracies that wireless transmission technologies, which were discovered and invented from around 1900, became broadcasting and not something more democratic. Transmission acquired a centralised structure, an expert-oriented journalistic ethics, and a relatively passive domestic culture of reception. This was good, but not good enough. In strictly technical terms, the new transmission technologies could have been constructed as a participatory public platform. Transmission could have become an everyday realisation of John Dewey’s democratic vision, but it ended up as one-way media in the spirit of Walter Lippmann. Much has happened in radio and television since then; there has been a slow and determined increase in audience activity and user-generated content from the 1990s, and television has been rejuvenated with reality TV and talent shows, and other things.
