Abstract: 5-Dehydroshikimic reductase has been partially purified from extracts of mung bean seedlings. The enzyme catalyzes the TPN-linked reduction of 5-dehydroshikimic acid to shikimic acid. Some properties of the enzyme are described. It has an optimum pH of 8.0 and Michaelis constants of 8.7 × 10−5 and 1.17 × 10−4 for shikimic acid and TPN, respectively. The enzyme is specific for TPN, and DPN is completely inactive. The reaction step was confirmed using radioactive shikimic acid-C14, which was converted to 5-dehydroshikimic acid-C14 when incubated with the partially purified enzyme.

Abstract: The action of rennets prepared from animal (cow and buffalo), vegetable, and microbial sources was studied on caseins from cow and buffalo milks, using the casein-agar gel diffusion technique. Both cow and buffalo rennets were observed to form two concentric precipitated zones while diffusing through an agar plate containing 1% whole casein (cow or buffalo) and 10–20mM calcium chloride. A subsequent clearance zone was also visible following the second zone of precipitation. Rates of increase in zone diameters for both precipitated zones were dependent on the nature of rennet and also on the type of casein, cow rennet being faster on cow casein than on buffalo casein. Buffalo rennet was equally reactive with both caseins. Rennet preparations from either vegetable or microorganisms exhibited a different action on casein-agar plate, forming only one precipitated zone followed by a clear zone.

Abstract: Der papierchromatographische Nachweis von freien Aminosauren in Zellfiussigkeit und Gewebsextrakten wird in der Regel durch Fremdstoffe empfindlich gestort, die meist im Uberschus in derartigen physiologischen Flussigkeiten gelost sind. Wichtig ist vor allem die Entfernung loslicher Proteine, weil durch ihre mogliche fermentative Spaltung die Analysenergebnisse leicht verfalscht werden konnen. Storend auf die chromatographischen Trennungen wirkt sich im allgemeinen der Gehalt an anorganischen Salzen aus. Von den verschiedenen Verfahren, welche zur Enteiweisung und weiteren Reinigung der Aminosaurengemische vorgeschlagen wurden, ist vor allem die von mehreren Autoren verwendete Alkoholextraktion [1, 2, 24, 85, 103] wegen ihrer Einfachheit und Wirksamkeit zu erwahnen.
