Increasing the penetration of renewable energy resources in S. Vicente, Cape Verde
TL;DR: In this article, different scenarios are analyzed with the objective of increasing the penetration of renewable energies in the energy system of S. Vicente Island in Cape Verde in Africa, and the results show that it is possible to have more than 30% of yearly penetration in the electricity supply system, together with more than 50% of the water supplied to the population produced from wind electricity.

Reversible solid oxide systems for energy and chemical applications – Review & perspectives
Vikrant Venkataraman,Mar Pérez-Fortes,Ligang Wang,Yashar S. Hajimolana,Carlos Boigues-Muñoz,Alessandro Agostini,Stephen J. McPhail,François Maréchal,Jan Van herle,P.V. Aravind +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a mini-review in the field of energy storage using reversible solid oxide cells (rSOCs) for developing energy storage systems for the future, which fall under the category of power to X-to-power systems where excess electrical energy produced through renewables is stored in the form of chemicals and the same chemicals are used for conversion back to power.
Journal ArticleDOI
Business and socioeconomic assessment of introducing heat pumps with heat storage in small-scale district heating systems
TL;DR: In this paper, the transition of a biomass-based district heating system which is neither socioeconomically optimal nor optimal in terms of integrating fluctuating renewable energy sources or using biomass resources appropriately is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Residential versus communal combination of photovoltaic and battery in smart energy systems
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an analysis of small consumers' involvement in smart island energy systems with a focus on the technical feasibility of photovoltaic (PV) systems in combination with batteries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic dispatch of solid oxide electrolysis system for high renewable energy penetration in a microgrid
TL;DR: In this paper, the impacts of increasing deployment of renewable energy sources (RES) on existing energy infrastructure has been investigated in a microgrid, an energy system that, with its constraints, foreshadows the challenges of the evolving electricity network.

Assessment of public acceptance and willingness to pay for renewable energy sources in Crete
Nikolaos Zografakis,Elli Sifaki,Maria Pagalou,Georgia Nikitaki,Vasilios Psarakis,Konstantinos P. Tsagarakis +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a contingent valuation study was conducted, using a double bound dichotomous choice format, to elicit people's acceptance and willingness to pay for renewable energy sources in Crete.
Journal ArticleDOI
RenewIslands methodology for sustainable energy and resource planning for islands
TL;DR: The RenewIslands methodology for the assessment of alternative scenarios for energy and resource planning is presented in this article, which is applied to several islands and helps in choosing energy and resources flows integration, based on the island needs, its resources, and the applicable technologies.
