Highly deformed intruder bands in the A≈130 mass region

TL;DR: Deformed shell model calculations based on an average Woods-Saxon potential with a monopole pairing force included show for a number of nuclei close to A≈130 the appearance of rotational bands with a large deformation, s2≈0.4 as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Escape suppressed spectrometer arrays: A revolution in γ-ray spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the design and performance of escape-suppressed γ-ray Spectrometer Arrays (ESRS) are described. And the highlights of the new physics achieved with these arrays are described: the observation of discrete superdeformed states up to spin 60, the systematic studies of aligned many quasi-particle states in rotating nuclei; band terminations and phase changes at high spins; classical rotations and the disappearance of static pairing; correlations in continuum radiation; the spectroscopy of proton rich nuclei at and near the N=Z line.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapidly rotating nuclei as riemann ellipsoids

TL;DR: In this article, the Riemann ellipsoid equations of motion are proven to constitute a Hamiltonian dynamical system, and the phase space is a co-adjoint orbit of the Lie group GCM(3), which is generated by the linear group Gl(3, R) and the inertia tensor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transition quadrupole moments of a large-deformation intruder band in 163Lu

TL;DR: The lifetime of excited states in 163Lu have been measured using the Dopplershift attenuation and recoil distance methods using the deduced transition quadrupole moments of the proton.
