Highly deformed intruder bands in the A≈130 mass region
TL;DR: Deformed shell model calculations based on an average Woods-Saxon potential with a monopole pairing force included show for a number of nuclei close to A≈130 the appearance of rotational bands with a large deformation, s2≈0.4 as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single step links of the superdeformed band in Pb-194 : A measure of the absolute excitation energy, spin and parity of the superdeformed states
A. Lopez-Martens,F. Hannachi,A. Korichi,C. Schück,E. Gueorguieva,Ch. Vieu,B. Haas,R. Lucas,A. Astier,G. Baldsiefen,M. P. Carpenter,R. Duffait,Laurent Ducroux,Y. Le Coz,C Finck,Andreas Görgen,H. Hübel,T. L. Khoo,T. Lauritsen,M. Meyer,D. Prévost,N. Redon,C. Rigollet,H. Savajols,J.F. Sharpey-Schafer,O. Stezowski,Ch. Theisen,U. J. van Severen,J.P. Vivien,Anna Wilson +29 more
TL;DR: In this article, the decay of the superdeformed (SD) band in 194 Pb was investigated and the most probable spins and parities of all members of the SD band were also deduced assuming that the SD states have even spin and positive parity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Escape suppressed spectrometer arrays: A revolution in γ-ray spectroscopy
J.F. Sharpey-Schafer,J. Simpson +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the design and performance of escape-suppressed γ-ray Spectrometer Arrays (ESRS) are described. And the highlights of the new physics achieved with these arrays are described: the observation of discrete superdeformed states up to spin 60, the systematic studies of aligned many quasi-particle states in rotating nuclei; band terminations and phase changes at high spins; classical rotations and the disappearance of static pairing; correlations in continuum radiation; the spectroscopy of proton rich nuclei at and near the N=Z line.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapidly rotating nuclei as riemann ellipsoids
TL;DR: In this article, the Riemann ellipsoid equations of motion are proven to constitute a Hamiltonian dynamical system, and the phase space is a co-adjoint orbit of the Lie group GCM(3), which is generated by the linear group Gl(3, R) and the inertia tensor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transition quadrupole moments of a large-deformation intruder band in 163Lu
W. Schmitz,H. Hübel,C.X. Yang,G. Baldsiefen,U. Birkental,G. Fröhlingsdorf,D. Mehta,R. Müβeler,M. Neffgen,P. Willsau,J. Gascon,G.B. Hagemann,A. Maj,D. Müller,J. Nyberg,M. Piiparinen,Ari Virtanen,Ramon Wyss +17 more
TL;DR: The lifetime of excited states in 163Lu have been measured using the Dopplershift attenuation and recoil distance methods using the deduced transition quadrupole moments of the proton.
