TLDR
The antimicrobial activities of the free ligand, its hydrochloride salt, and the complexes were evaluated using the disk diffusion method in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as well as the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) dilution method, against 10 bacteria and the results compared with that for gentamycin.

The therapeutic journey of benzimidazoles: a review.

TL;DR: In the present review, various derivatives of benzimidazole with different pharmacological activities are described on the basis of substitution pattern around the nucleus with an aim to help medicinal chemists for developing an SAR on benzimdazole derived compounds for each activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ruthenium complexes containing bis-benzimidazole derivatives as a new class of apoptosis inducers

TL;DR: A series of ruthenium complexes containing bis-benzimidazole derivatives have been synthesized and identified as able to target mitochondria and induce caspase-dependent apoptosis in cancer cells through superoxide overproduction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Functionalized Nanocellulose-Integrated Heterolayered Nanomats toward Smart Battery Separators.

TL;DR: A new class of heterolayered nanomat-based hierarchical/asymmetric porous membrane with synergistically coupled chemical activity as a nanocellulose-mediated green material strategy to develop smart battery separator membranes far beyond their current state-of-the-art counterparts is presented.

Fascinating variability in the chemistry and properties of 2,6-bis-(benzimidazol-2-yl)-pyridine and 2,6-bis-(benzthiazol-2-yl)-pyridine and their complexes

TL;DR: A review of papers up to 2008 dealing with all branches of chemistry of the compounds containing 2,2′-pyridine-2,6-diylbis(1H-benzimidazole) and 2.2''pyridine-2.6''diyl bis(1,3)-benzothiazole is presented in this paper.

Calcium and Magnesium Ions Are Membrane-Active against Stationary-Phase Staphylococcus aureus with High Specificity

TL;DR: It is shown that Ca2+ and Mg2+, two alkaline-earth-metal ions physiologically essential for diverse living organisms, both disrupt model S. aureus membranes and kill stationary-phase S.Aureus cells, indicative of membrane-activity.

Density-functional exchange-energy approximation with correct asymptotic behavior.

TL;DR: This work reports a gradient-corrected exchange-energy functional, containing only one parameter, that fits the exact Hartree-Fock exchange energies of a wide variety of atomic systems with remarkable accuracy, surpassing the performance of previous functionals containing two parameters or more.
Journal ArticleDOI

Density-functional approximation for the correlation energy of the inhomogeneous electron gas

TL;DR: Numerical results for atoms, positive ions, and surfaces are close to the exact correlation energies, with major improvements over the original LM approximation for the ions and surfaces.

Manual of clinical microbiology

TL;DR: A collaborative team of editors and authors from around the world revised the Manual to include the latest applications of genomics and proteomics, producing an authoritative work of two volumes filled with current findings regarding infectious agents, leading-edge diagnostic methods, laboratory practices, and safety guidelines.

A procedure for the isolation of deoxyribonucleic acid from micro-organisms

TL;DR: A method has been described for the isolation of DNA from micro-organisms which yields stable, biologically active, highly polymerized preparations relatively free from protein and RNA, and Representative samples have been characterized for their thermal stability and sedimentation behaviour.

Absolute hardness: companion parameter to absolute electronegativity

TL;DR: In this paper, a property called absolute hardness eta is defined for neutral and charged species, atomic and molecular, for both hard and soft acids and bases, by making use of the hypothesis that extra stability attends bonding of A to B when the ionization potentials of A and B in the molecule are the same.
