Abstract: The noticeable rise in the electricity demand, fast depletion of fossil fuels, along with environmental concerns throughout the world has led to the requirement of commissioning Solar PV plants in large scale. Solar photovoltaic (PV) installation has the burden of intense land requirements which will always be a premium commodity. To conserve the valuable land & water, installing Solar PV system on water bodies like oceans, lakes, lagoons, reservoir, irrigation ponds, waste water treatment plants, wineries, fish farms, dams and canals can be an attractive option. Floating type solar photovoltaic panels have numerous advantages compared to overland installed solar panels, including fewer obstacles to block sunlight, convenient, energy efficiency, higher power generation efficiency owing to its lower temperature underneath the panels. Additionally, the aquatic environment profits by the solar installation because the shading of the plant prevents excessive water evaporation, limits algae growth and potentially improving water quality. This paper gives more insight about the Floating PV technology, its present status & various design options.

Abstract: The light from the Sun is a non-vanishing renewable source of energy which is free from environmental pollution and noise. It can easily compensate the energy drawn from the non-renewable sources of energy such as fossil fuels and petroleum deposits inside the earth. The fabrication of solar cells has passed through a large number of improvement steps from one generation to another. Silicon based solar cells were the first generation solar cells grown on Si wafers, mainly single crystals. Further development to thin films, dye sensitized solar cells and organic solar cells enhanced the cell efficiency. The development is basically hindered by the cost and efficiency. In order to choose the right solar cell for a specific geographic location, we are required to understand fundamental mechanisms and functions of several solar technologies that are widely studied. In this article, we have reviewed a progressive development in the solar cell research from one generation to other, and discussed about their future trends and aspects. The article also tries to emphasize the various practices and methods to promote the benefits of solar energy.

TL;DR: In this paper, various solar thermal desalination methods such as direct and indirect methods have been discussed The indirect methods are preferable for medium and large scale Desalination systems, whereas the direct methods employing the solar stills are more suitable for small scale systems.
Abstract: Most of the desalination systems are energy intensive, which consume high grade energy like gas, electricity, oil and fossil fuels These processes lead to carbon footprints, which causes depletion of ozone layer as well as health hazards on mankind It is also lead to global warming which is the burning topic and becomes threat to life sustainability The potential of harnessing solar energy is most efficient and effective for heat to heat conversion The thermal desalination is a low temperature application processes with one time investment for life time water production up to 10 to 15 years In this paper, various solar thermal desalination methods such as direct and indirect methods have been discussed The indirect methods are preferable for medium and large scale desalination systems, whereas the direct methods employing the solar stills are more suitable for small scale systems The performance of the low cost solar stills can be improved with simple modification by using various locally available materials These low cost stills can be easily and economically fabricated for meeting daily need of the fresh drinking water These low cost solar stills are sufficient for the small households and communities living in islands, coastal areas It can also be uses for distillation of brackish water for the population residing near river banks Such a system also suitable for the fluoride affected area to remove fluoride from the water The low cost solar stills are sufficient for removal of arsenic, mercury, cadmium, coliform, virus and bacteria

Abstract: A simplified procedure for predicting the long term monthly average electrical output of photovoltaic arrays is presented. It is restricted to passively cooled max-power tracked arrays, but is applicable to both south facing fixed flat arrays and 2-D tracked concentrators. The procedure combines basic parameters characterizing the array with the local monthly mean temperature and the monthly K/sub T/ to yield a monthly average array efficiency which, when multiplied by the monthly array insolation gives the electrical energy output.

TL;DR: Nine different designs of combined PV-thermal collectors were evaluated and the channel-below-transparent-PV design gives the best efficiency, but since the annual efficiency of the PV-on-sheet-and-tube design in a solar heating system was only 2% worse while it is easier to manufacture, this design was considered to be a good alternative.
