TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the direct contact heat transfer for a helium gas at 90°C injected through a slurry of water at 22°C and alumina solid particles in a bubble column reactor and found that the volumetric heat transfer coefficient and the slurry temperature increase by increasing the superficial gas velocity, static liquid height, solid particles concentration and solid particle size.

TL;DR: In this article, the average bubble diameter and conditions of bubble generation are obtained for the extreme cases when no coalescence is observed and the coalescence occurs at the maximum-rate.
Abstract: Bubbles which have been just generated from the porous plate are small and have an equal size, but sometime coalescence of these small bubbles occurs at a location slightly removed from the distributor, where the gas holdup is very large. Therefore, large and wide size distribution of bubbles are observed. This occurs easily in pure water and pure solvents. The surface active substances in water and solvents obstruct this coalescence of bubbles. In concentrated inorganic salt solutions, this obstruction is also recognized. For the extreme cases when no coalescence is observed and the coalescence occurs at the maximumrate, the correlations of the average bubble diameter and the conditions of bubble generation are obtained.

Abstract: An innovative Diffusion Driven Desalination process was recently described where evaporation of seawater is driven by diffusion within a packed bed. This work describes the evaporative heat and mass transfer analysis for the packed bed. Temperature and humidity data have been collected over a range of flow conditions at the inlet and outlet of the packed bed. The analysis agrees very well with the experimental data collected during this investigation and that which has been reported in the literature.

TL;DR: In this article, a perforated plate-spray column in which a volatile dispersed phase evaporates while rising in the continuous, counterflowing, immiscible phase is presented.
Abstract: Transfer characteristics are presented for a perforated plate-spray column in which a volatile dispersed phase evaporates while rising in the continuous, counterflowing, immiscible phase. Optimal column heights, volumetric transfer coefficients, holdup, and foam heights are reported as functions of flow rate and temperature approach for a pentane-water system, A comparison with related studies is presented.

TL;DR: The initial drop size of volatile fluids evaporating within immiscible, nonvolatile liquids was experimentally related to the overall heat transfer coefficient in single and multiparticle systems.
Abstract: The initial drop size of volatile fluids evaporating within immiscible, nonvolatile liquids was experimentally related to the overall heat transfer coefficient in single and multiparticle systems. Coalescence and turbulence diminish the effects of the initial size, which are thus limited to the lower part of the exchanger where single-drop characteristics are maintained. Condensation data of single bubbles are in good agreement with the single-drop relationship.
