The Effects of Quality and Satisfaction on Awareness and Behavioral Intentions: Exploring the Role of a Wine Festival

01 Feb 2008-Journal of Travel Research (SAGE Publications)-Vol. 46, Iss: 3, pp 279-288
TL;DR: In this article, a structural equation modeling analysis reveals that attendee evaluation of festival quality positively influences satisfaction with the festival, and that satisfaction exerts a positive and direct influence on awareness of local wines and wineries.
Abstract: This study examines how festivals can promote wine products and wineries and influence customer behavioral intentions. Specifically, this research proposes a theoretical model, focusing on the relationships among (1) perceived festival quality, (2) satisfaction with the wine festival, (3) subsequent awareness of local wines and wineries, and (4) future intentions to buy local wine products and to visit wineries. A structural equation modeling analysis reveals that attendee evaluation of festival quality positively influences satisfaction with the festival, and that satisfaction exerts a positive and direct influence on awareness of local wines and wineries. Festival quality appears not to directly affect behavioral intentions, whereas satisfaction and awareness have positive and direct relationships with intentions. Mediator functions of satisfaction and awareness are also discussed. This study extends previous research by specifically considering ways in which service quality and satisfaction with a wine...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated American customers' perceptions of Chinese restaurants in the U.S., using the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) approach and found that food quality, service reliability and environmental cleanliness are three pivotal attributes to create satisfied customers and positive post-dining behavioral intentions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors empirically tested a model linking tourists' emotional experiences, satisfaction and behavioral intentions, and found that satisfaction mediates the relationship between tourists' emotions and behavioral intention.
Abstract: Modeling behavioral intentions remain an important area of research in tourism. This study empirically tests a model linking tourists' emotional experiences, satisfaction and behavioral intentions. The model proposes that satisfaction mediates the relationship between tourists' emotional experiences and behavioral intentions. Data were collected from international tourists visiting Petra, a UNESCO world heritage site. Contrary to theoretical predictions, results do not support the mediating effect of satisfaction on the relationship between emotions (joy, love, positive surprise, and unpleasantness) and behavioral intentions. Findings offer important strategic marketing implications for Petra in relation to branding and managing destination experiences.

Abstract: In this article, we provide guidance for substantive researchers on the use of structural equation modeling in practice for theory testing and development. We present a comprehensive, two-step modeling approach that employs a series of nested models and sequential chi-square difference tests. We discuss the comparative advantages of this approach over a one-step approach. Considerations in specification, assessment of fit, and respecification of measurement models using confirmatory factor analysis are reviewed. As background to the two-step approach, the distinction between exploratory and confirmatory analysis, the distinction between complementary approaches for theory testing versus predictive application, and some developments in estimation methods also are discussed.

TL;DR: This book deals with probability distributions, discrete and continuous densities, distribution functions, bivariate distributions, means, variances, covariance, correlation, and some random process material.
Abstract: Chapter 3 deals with probability distributions, discrete and continuous densities, distribution functions, bivariate distributions, means, variances, covariance, correlation, and some random process material. Chapter 4 is a detailed study of the concept of utility including the psychological aspects, risk, attributes, rules for utilities, multidimensional utility, and normal form of analysis. Chapter 5 treats games and optimization, linear optimization, and mixed strategies. Entropy is the topic of Chapter 6 with sections devoted to entropy, disorder, information, Shannon’s theorem, demon’s roulette, Maxwell– Boltzmann distribution, Schrodinger’s nutshell, maximum entropy probability distributions, blackbodies, and Bose–Einstein distribution. Chapter 7 is standard statistical fare including transformations of random variables, characteristic functions, generating functions, and the classic limit theorems such as the central limit theorem and the laws of large numbers. Chapter 8 is about exchangeability and inference with sections on Bayesian techniques and classical inference. Partial exchangeability is also treated. Chapter 9 considers such things as order statistics, extreme value, intensity, hazard functions, and Poisson processes. Chapter 10 covers basic elements of risk and reliability, while Chapter 11 is devoted to curve fitting, regression, and Monte Carlo simulation. There is an ample number of exercises at the ends of the chapters with answers or comments on many of them in an appendix in the back of the book. Other appendices are on the common discrete and continuous distributions and mathematical aspects of integration.
