Dry Bean Protein Functionality

TL;DR: An overview of dry bean protein functionality with emphases on nutritional quality and hydration-related properties is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Comparative Study on the Chemical and Amino Acid Composition of Some Nigerian Under-Utilized Legume Flours

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative study was carried out on chemical and amino acid composition of six Nigerian under-utilized legume (two varieties of bambara groundnut, kersting's groundnut and cranberry beans) flours, and it revealed that the legume were superior with respect to Arg, Leu and Phe when comparing the essential amino acidsin the studied samples with the recommended FAO/WHO provisional pattern however supplementation maybe required in Ile, Lys and Val.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reciprocal effects of host plant and natural enemy diversity on herbivore suppression: an empirical study of a model tritrophic system

TL;DR: The results of an empirical study of a model, tritrophic food web in which the diversity of host plant species and natural enemy species were manipulated suggest that population sizes in nature, and biotic controls over insect pests, are influenced by species diversity at multiple trophic levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

The draft genomes of five agriculturally important African orphan crops.

TL;DR: Draft genome information for five agriculturally, biologically, medicinally, and economically important underutilized plants native to Africa will be useful to identify and characterize agronomically important genes and understand their modes of action, enabling genomics-based, evolutionary studies, and breeding strategies to design faster, more focused, and predictable crop improvement programs.
