In this paper, a split sphere apparatus has been developed to generate exceedingly high hydrostatic pressures more than 300 kilobars at temperatures over 1500°C in a sample chamber of ample volume.Abstract:
A split sphere apparatus has been developed to generate exceedingly high hydrostatic pressures more than 300 kilobars at temperatures over 1500°C in a sample chamber of ample volume. The calibration of pressures is made by the use of known phase transition points in Bi, Fe, and Pb. The calibration above the Pb point (161 kilobars) is discussed in terms of resistance changes for In and CdS previously reported by Drickamer et al.read more

The cause of decreased pan evaporation over the past 50 years.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the decrease in evaporation is consistent with what one would expect from the observed large and widespread decreases in sunlight resulting from increasing cloud coverage and aerosol concentration.

Materials: Ultrahard polycrystalline diamond from graphite.
TL;DR: Surprisingly, this synthesized polycrystalline diamond is ultrahard and so could be useful in the manufacture of scientific and industrial tools.

Phase transformations and their bearing on the constitution and dynamics of the mantle
TL;DR: The bulk chemical composition of pyrolite is derived from experimental and petrological studies of the complementary relationships between basaltic magmas and refractory peridotites as discussed by the authors.

TL;DR: In this article, a pyroxene-garnet solid-solution equilibria have been studied in the pressure range 41-200 kbar and over the temperature range 850-1,450°C for the system Mg4SiO3 in pyrope (Mg3Al2Si3O12), and in a pressure range 30-105 kbar, and over a temperature range 1,000 -1,300

An experimental investigation of the pyroxene-garnet transformation in a pyrolite composition and its bearing on the constitution of the mantle
TL;DR: In this article, the pyroxene-garnet transformation in a model pyrolite composition has been investigated over the pressure interval 4.0 to 17.5 GPa at temperatures of 1200-1400°C.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that, with the exception of GaAs, all transitions are solid-solid transitions, apparently to a metallic state, except for GaSb and AlSb.

High Pressure Electrical Resistance Cell, and Calibration Points above 100 Kilobars
A. S. Balchan,H.G. Drickamer +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a high pressure electrical cell is described consisting of tapered Carboloy pistons supported by a pyrophyllite pellet, and a calibration is obtained based on the barium transition at 59 kb, the bismuth transition at 90 kb and an extrapolation of Bridgman's data.
