Infrared absorption spectra of aquo complexes and the nature of co-ordination bonds

TL;DR: In this paper, a normal co-ordinate treatment has been made for one complex ion of T h symmetry and for D 4 h symmetry on the basis of Urey-Bradley type potential and the bond stretching force constants for the various metal-oxygen bonds have been calculated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Raman Spectral Studies of the Effects of Temperature on Water and Electrolyte Solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, the intermolecular Raman bands of water, viz., the hydrogen-bond bending and stretching bands, and the librational bands, decrease rapidly in intensity with temperature rise.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spectral comparison of heavily hydrated salts with disrupted terrains on Europa

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a near-infrared reflectance spectra of highly hydrated sulfur-bearing salts, including hexahydrite, epsomite, bloedite, mirabilite, supersaturated MgSO4, NaHCO3, and Na2SO4 brines, and magnesium sulfate dodecahydrate, all have been measured under conditions of pressure and temperature appropriate to the surface environment of Europa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the Infrared Spectra (4000–70 cm−1) of Several Hydrated and Anhydrous Salts of Transition Metals

TL;DR: In this paper, the infrared spectra from 4000 to 70 cm−1 of several hydrated and anhydrous salts of transition metals have been obtained and a comparison of the spectra of a hydrate with a full coordination shell of water, of a lower hydrate, and of the an hydrous salt is made.

Rotation‐Vibration Spectra of Deuterated Water Vapor

TL;DR: In this paper, spectra of heavy water have been obtained under high resolution between 1.25-4.1μ (2400-8000 cm-1) and approximately 4500 lines have been measured, and the majority of them analyzed into ten bands of D2O and nine bands of HDO.

The Vibrational Spectra of Molecules and Complex Ions in Crystals. I. General Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that if a crystal is approximated as a harmonic oscillator, only a very small number of vibrational modes may be active in the infra-red or Raman spectra.

Motions of Molecules in Condensed Systems: V. Classification of Motions and Selection Rules for Spectra According to Space Symmetry

TL;DR: In this paper, a classification of the motions of a crystal is made on the basis of space symmetry, with the aid of the Born-Karman boundary conditions, and the selection rules for fundamentals arising from this classification are the same as those derived by the unit cell analysis of Bhagavantam and Venkatarayudu.

Infrared spectra of inorganic ions in the cesium bromide region (700–300 cm−1)

TL;DR: In this article, the infrared spectra from 300-880 cm−1 of 208 inorganic substances are reported, nearly all of which are salts containing polyatomic ions, and a list of characteristic frequencies is given for twenty ions.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the infrared absorption of water and heavy water in condensed states

TL;DR: The infrared spectra (from 2 to 30μ) of thin films of H2O and D2O were measured at various temperatures between 20 ° and −180 °C as discussed by the authors.
