In this paper, the authors present a general introduction to the theory of transformation kinetics of real metals, including the formation and evolution of martensitic transformations, as well as a theory of dislocations.

Atomic mechanisms of precipitate plate growth in the AlAg system—I. Conventional transmission electron microscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the detailed interfacial structure of γ′ precipitates in an Al-15 wt%Ag alloy has been studied by conventional transmission electron microscopy, and contrast analyses indicate that there is a strong tendency for single 1 6 〈112〉 Shockley partial dislocations on the precipitate faces to interact, forming multiple unit ledges which display the contrast behavior of 1 2 ǫ-110-dislocations.

Low-temperature degradation in zirconia with a porous surface

TL;DR: It is shown that specific conditions of processing to generate the porous layer at the surface can lead to an accelerated tetragonal-monoclinic transformation of the porous layers in the presence of water, and low-temperature degradation resistance of such porous surfaces should be carefully followed and controlled in order to avoid critical problems in the future.

The dendritic growth of γ' precipitates and grain

TL;DR: In this paper, the growth pattern of γ precipitates in the grains and at the grain boundaries has been investigated in a Ni-24Co-4Al-4Ti-5Cr-5Mo (weight percent) alloy of very small lattice misfit between the precipitate and the matrix phases under varying heat-treatment conditions.

Cyclic torsional loading of pseudoelastic NiTi shape memory alloys: Damping and fatigue failure

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the mechanical response of pseudoelastic NiTi shape memory alloys to cyclic torsional loading, and reported the corresponding fatigue data and provided a microstructural interpretation of fatigue failure.

Surface relief and the mechanism of a phase transformation

TL;DR: In this paper, the surface relief in a diffusional fcc-hcp transformation and its relation to ledge growth is examined. And the same mechanism is applied to increasingly complex cases, such as the relation to structural ledges, fccbcc transformations and finally a general martensite interface.
