Trifluoroacetic acid catalysed [1,3]-rearrangement of aryl 2-halocyclohexenylmethyl ethers
Abstract: Unusual [1,3]-rearrangement of aryl 2-halocyclohexenylmethyl ethers promoted by trifluoroacetic acid was observed. Products due to Claisen rearrangement were not formed.

Abstract: Cyclodextrins (CDs), which possess a hydrophobic cavity, have a remarkable capacity to form inclusion complexes with various molecules through host-guest interactions It is well known that the usefulness of CDs is due to the combination of the inclusion properties and structural features of these molecules CDs are used extensively in separation science because CD-complexation phenomena offer a procedure of choice for separation of compounds and extraction processes, and provide a useful and versatile tool for protecting the environment The present review shows the advantages accruing from the use of adsorbents containing cyclodextrins, in particular in chromatographic separations and in waste water treatment The main goal of this review is to provide a summary of the information concerning the synthesis of materials containing CDs and to give a general overview of the different possible applications of CDs as sorbents in the field of separation techniques Recent and continuing interest in these adsorbents is evident from the number of papers that appear each year in the literature

Abstract: Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), discovered at the early 20th century, has been widely used in organic synthesis as a solvent, catalyst and reagent. Many chemical transformations should be done with the aid of TFA, including rearrangements, functional group deprotections, oxidations, reductions, condensations, hydroarylations and trifluoromethylations. This review covers TFA synthetic applications, giving to the organic chemistry research community an opportunity to go in depth on the many diverse uses of this strong acid, water miscible and low boiling point reagent.

Abstract: Macroporous polyamines containing β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) are used for the recovery of various organic pollutants from aqueous solutions. Several insoluble polyamines with various degrees of β-CD were prepared. Studies concerning the sorption kinetics, the effect of pollutant concentration, pH of the solutions, and β-CD content are presented here. The results of sorption experiments show that these sorbents exhibit high sorption capacities toward substituted phenolic derivatives. The mechanism of sorption is both physical adsorption in the resin polymer network through acid–base interactions, ion exchange, and hydrogen bonding due to the amino groups and the formation of an inclusion complex due to the β-CD molecules through host–guest interactions, and hydrophobic interactions such as guest–guest interactions. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Abstract: A one-pot migration–formylation of benzyl aryl ethers under Duff reaction condition is described. The reaction was performed with HMTA (hexamethylene tetramine) and TFA (trifluoroacetic acid). Under the optimal reaction conditions, a variety of Bn and PMB ethers underwent ortho rearrangement.

Abstract: β -Cyclodextrin is chemically modified to selectively introduce an acridinedione moiety on the primary face. The synthesis involves the substitution of one of the primary hydroxyl groups of β -cyclodextrin by a tosyl group which facilitates the introduction of an ethylene diamine modification which is finally condensed to a tetraketone. The acridinedione modified β -cyclodextrin thus obtained was fully characterized by IR, NMR and Mass spectrometry. The photophysical properties of the compound were also analyzed. The potential of the modified β -cyclodextrin to act as an energy donor in FRET was investigated with a suitable acceptor.
