TLDR
The role of uncertainties in visual and oral communications provided by the various groups of visitors is addressed and a methodology is proposed in which the statistical nature of the input information relating to damage parameters like location, spread and intensity are translated into engineering inputs that enable the modeling of the problem, followed by assessment, diagnosis and possible rehabilitation measures.
Abstract
In India, natural disasters can cause considerable amount of damage in terms of lives and financial investments. The after effects of disasters in mitigating the effects to repair and rehabilitation can take considerable amount of time as experts visit the site to get a personal assessment. The information flow is language independent and it is possible to communicate with persons on site either in visual or oral manners. In this paper, the role of uncertainties in visual and oral communications provided by the various groups of visitors is addressed. A methodology is proposed in which the statistical nature of the input information relating to damage parameters like location, spread and intensity are translated into engineering inputs that enable the modeling of the problem, which is followed by assessment ,diagnostics and possible rehabilitation measures.

Safety assessment of structures in view of fuzzy randomness

TL;DR: On the basis of the theory of the fuzzy random variables the fuzzy probabilistic safety concept is introduced and formulated as the fuzzy first order reliability method (FFORM), which permits fuzziness, randomness and fuzzy randomness to be accounted for simultaneously.

Damage identification in reinforced concrete structures by dynamic stiffness determination

TL;DR: In this paper, different techniques are compared to derive from experimentally determined modal characteristics of a reinforced concrete beam its dynamic bending stiffness, due to the cracking of the reinforced concrete, gives information on the position and severity of the damage that has occurred.

Parameterization of damage in reinforced concrete structures using model updating

TL;DR: In this article, the application of finite element model updating to reinforced concrete beams in order to detect and quantify damage is described, where three simply supported beams are considered in this study: two of them are subjected to a single concentrated load while the third one to two concentrated loads.

Uncertainty handling in structural damage detection using fuzzy logic and probabilistic simulation

TL;DR: In this paper, a fuzzy logic system (FLS) with a new sliding window defuzzifier is developed for damage detection in a steel beam having material uncertainty (elastic modulus) with coefficient of variation (COV) of 3 percent and noise level of 015 in the measurement data, correctly identifies the fault with an accuracy of about 94 percent.
