TL;DR: How all these technologies and the associated requirements of job candidates will affect the desired capabilities of accounting graduates is reflected and further discussion regarding what higher institutions and their accounting graduates can do to adopt such changes are provided.
Abstract: Recent developments in technology have introduced dramatic changes to the practice of the accounting profession. This paper provides a comprehensive review of current developments in big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and blockchain utilized in general business practice and by specialized practitioners in the accounting profession worldwide. This paper explores the evolution of the accounting profession following these recent technological developments and assesses the impact of future developments. Inherent challenges and opportunities posed by these new technologies pertaining to accounting professionals and accounting educators are also examined, including an increased demand for IT professionals with accounting experience as opposed to accounting major graduates. Considering the dramatic changes and developments of AI applications in accounting, this paper reflects how all these technologies and the associated requirements of job candidates will affect the desired capabilities of accounting graduates and provides further discussion regarding what higher institutions and their accounting graduates can do to adopt such changes.

TL;DR: The resulting platform provides benchmark data for the improvement of machine learning algorithms, gives insights into the design, implementation and validation of a complete architecture for IIoT applications with specific requirements concerning robustness, scalability and security and therefore reduces the reticence in the industry to widely adopt these technologies.
Abstract: The wide adoption of smart machine maintenance in manufacturing is blocked by open challenges in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) with regard to robustness, scalability and security. Solving these challenges is of uttermost importance to mission-critical industrial operations. Furthermore, effective application of predictive maintenance requires well-trained machine learning algorithms which on their turn require high volumes of reliable data. This paper addresses both challenges and presents the Smart Maintenance Living Lab, an open test and research platform that consists of a fleet of drivetrain systems for accelerated lifetime tests of rolling-element bearings, a scalable IoT middleware cloud platform for reliable data ingestion and persistence, and a dynamic dashboard application for fleet monitoring and visualization. Each individual component within the presented system is discussed and validated, demonstrating the feasibility of IIoT applications for smart machine maintenance. The resulting platform provides benchmark data for the improvement of machine learning algorithms, gives insights into the design, implementation and validation of a complete architecture for IIoT applications with specific requirements concerning robustness, scalability and security and therefore reduces the reticence in the industry to widely adopt these technologies.

TL;DR: Evidence that a bibliometric approach in conjunction with data visualization can be a valuable complement to in-depth literature reviews for the decision-making process is provided.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse how using bibliometrics and information visualization can provide a “picture at glance” from which decision-makers can structure processes, thus organizing outputs/outcomes from inception.,This study carried out a bibliometric-oriented review on studies on higher education students' retention; 1,962 records were downloaded from Scopus and grouped into three five-year intervals: 2002–2006 (n = 236), 2007–2011 (n = 584) and 2012–2016 (n = 1,142). Centrality measures and text-mining techniques were used to analyse data.,Clusters of academic networks were identified by using co-citation analysis. Also, terms with high semantic value were ranked and grouped by using automatic term extraction and co-word analysis.,The bibliometric approach used in this study identifies clusters of authors specialized in student retention, as well as detects the primary terms within this research field.,This paper provides evidence that a bibliometric approach in conjunction with data visualization can be a valuable complement to in-depth literature reviews for the decision-making process.

TL;DR: This case introduces students to visualizing accounting data in Tableau, and learns basic data cleaning and visualization skills and critical thinking skills from analyzing a business case and creating a dashboard and storyboard to support business decision making.
Abstract: This case introduces students to visualizing accounting data in Tableau. In it, students import data, conduct basic data cleaning, answer client queries, and create visualizations, including dashboards and storyboards. From the case, students learn basic data cleaning and visualization skills. In its final phase, they also learn critical thinking skills from analyzing a business case and creating a dashboard and storyboard to support business decision making. They experience first-hand the exciting processes of understanding, performing, and communicating professional data analytics work. Undergraduate or graduate accounting students who have completed an introductory accounting class will benefit from the case. Evidence from applications suggests that the case is relevant, interesting, and useful for the goal of teaching introductory data visualization skills, using Tableau, to accounting students. The case is easy to implement, authentic, engaging, and a timely instructional resource for accounting instructors and students.
