Synthesis and characterization of dense, rare-earth based high entropy fluorite thin films

TL;DR: In this article , the authors synthesize dense films of fluorite structured (CeLaSmPrY)O2−x by sol-gel as well as pulsed laser deposition processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

3D Meso-Scale Modeling of Solidification for Aluminum-Alloy Welding

TL;DR: In this paper, a 3D meso-scale model of a weld pool with both solid grains and liquid channels is presented to predict the variation in the distribution of liquid channel width as a function of welding parameters.

Use Of Segregation As A Weld Design Opportunity

TL;DR: In this paper, the selection of the optimal Rare Earth (RE) element addition to achieve intragranular precipitation of inoculants for acicular ferrite formation in high strength low alloy steel weld metal is introduced to demonstrate the application of fundamentals of microstructure evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Chloride and Sulfate Ions on the SCC of API-X70 Pipeline Welds in Diluted Carbonated Solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the SCC susceptibility of longitudinal weldments of API-5L X-70 PSL1 pipeline steel in diluted bicarbonate solutions with and without the addition of chloride and sulfate ions by using slow strain rate tests (SSRTs).

A review on selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) of aluminium alloy powders: Processing, microstructure, and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the state of the art in selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) processing of aluminium powders is reviewed from different perspectives, including powder metallurgy (P/M), pulsed electric current (PECS), and laser welding of aluminium alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dislocation network in additive manufactured steel breaks strength–ductility trade-off

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the pre-existing dislocation network, which maintains its configuration during the entire plastic deformation, is an ideal modulator that is able to slow down but not entirely block the dislocation motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical review of automotive steels spot welding: process, structure and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental understanding of structure-properties relationship in automotive steels resistance spot welds is discussed. And a brief review of friction stir spot welding, as an alternative to RSW, is also included.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting fundamental welding concepts to improve additive manufacturing: From theory to practice

TL;DR: In this article, a unified equation to compute the energy density is proposed to compare works performed with distinct equipment and experimental conditions, covering the major process parameters: power, travel speed, heat source dimension, hatch distance, deposited layer thickness and material grain size.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using deep neural network with small dataset to predict material defects

TL;DR: This study attempted to predict solidification defects by DNN regression with a small dataset that contains 487 data points and found that a pre-trained and fine-tuned DNN shows better generalization performance over shallow neural network, support vector machine, and DNN trained by conventional methods.
