An Overview of the Process Mechanisms in the Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors present a review of the laser powder-directed energy deposition (LP-DED) mechanisms and the relationship between the input process parameters and related outcomes, with a specific focus on the critical parameters that should be investigated when new materials are developed or process optimization is carried out.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of Heat Affected Zone in Welded Aluminum Alloys Using Inverse and Direct Modeling

TL;DR: In this article, the concept of constructing parameter spaces for process control and the prediction of properties within the heat affected zone (HAZ) of welds using inverse modeling is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of Fusion Weldments of Semi-Solid Aluminium A356 Alloy: Pool Geometry and Microstructure

TL;DR: In this article, a fusion welding technique to join a semi-solid processed A356 cast plate is explored using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and the geometries of the weld pool as well as the temperature gradient in the fusion boundary were measured to understand the microstructure evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative study of the microstructure evolution of dual-phase Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni high-entropy alloy prepared by direct laser deposition and vacuum arc melting

TL;DR: In this article , dual-phase (FCC + BCC) Al 0.7 CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys were successfully fabricated by direct laser deposition (DLD) and vacuum arc melting (VAM).
Journal ArticleDOI

Preventing Crack Formation at the Vicinity of the Fusion Zone in the Welding of Crane Rail Steel by Preheating Treatment

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of preheating temperature on crack formation, microstructure and mechanical properties of overhead crane rail steel joint by the use of shielded metal arc welding was investigated.

A review on selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) of aluminium alloy powders: Processing, microstructure, and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the state of the art in selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) processing of aluminium powders is reviewed from different perspectives, including powder metallurgy (P/M), pulsed electric current (PECS), and laser welding of aluminium alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dislocation network in additive manufactured steel breaks strength–ductility trade-off

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the pre-existing dislocation network, which maintains its configuration during the entire plastic deformation, is an ideal modulator that is able to slow down but not entirely block the dislocation motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical review of automotive steels spot welding: process, structure and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental understanding of structure-properties relationship in automotive steels resistance spot welds is discussed. And a brief review of friction stir spot welding, as an alternative to RSW, is also included.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting fundamental welding concepts to improve additive manufacturing: From theory to practice

TL;DR: In this article, a unified equation to compute the energy density is proposed to compare works performed with distinct equipment and experimental conditions, covering the major process parameters: power, travel speed, heat source dimension, hatch distance, deposited layer thickness and material grain size.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using deep neural network with small dataset to predict material defects

TL;DR: This study attempted to predict solidification defects by DNN regression with a small dataset that contains 487 data points and found that a pre-trained and fine-tuned DNN shows better generalization performance over shallow neural network, support vector machine, and DNN trained by conventional methods.
