Proper Heat Treatment to Reduce Intergranular Corrosion Susceptibility of Austenitic 304 and Ferritic 430 Stainless Steels

TL;DR: In this paper, a heat treatment at a temperature of 900°C for 36 hours followed by water quenching was used to prevent the formation of chromium carbides and promote the diffusion of the chromium back to replenish chromium-depleted zones.
Journal ArticleDOI

Control of a three-phase to single-phase back-to-back converter for electrical resistance seam welding systems

TL;DR: In this article, a 150 KVA prototype of a DC link back-to-back converter for electrical resistance seam welding applications is described, which allows the voltage on the DC bus to vary in order to avoid the propagation at the input side of the pulsed power required by the load.

Digital models of manufacturing : with emphasis on titanium welding for early product development

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on developing the early product development by analyzing how to integrate the manufacturing process with the early design process, and propose a method to integrate manufacturing process and early design processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of beam wobbling on microstructure and hardness during laser welding of X70 pipeline steel

TL;DR: In this paper , the influence of beam wobbling on weld surface morphology, fusion zone microstructure, and microhardness was investigated using laser welding with beam wobbles to weld X70 pipeline steel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure and Properties of a Novel Carbon‐Martensitic Hot Work Tool Steel Processed by Laser Additive Manufacturing without Preheating

TL;DR: In this article , the microstructure and hardness of carbon-martensitic tool steels were investigated for the production of parts with low crack density by LAM without preheating.

A review on selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) of aluminium alloy powders: Processing, microstructure, and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the state of the art in selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) processing of aluminium powders is reviewed from different perspectives, including powder metallurgy (P/M), pulsed electric current (PECS), and laser welding of aluminium alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dislocation network in additive manufactured steel breaks strength–ductility trade-off

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the pre-existing dislocation network, which maintains its configuration during the entire plastic deformation, is an ideal modulator that is able to slow down but not entirely block the dislocation motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical review of automotive steels spot welding: process, structure and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental understanding of structure-properties relationship in automotive steels resistance spot welds is discussed. And a brief review of friction stir spot welding, as an alternative to RSW, is also included.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting fundamental welding concepts to improve additive manufacturing: From theory to practice

TL;DR: In this article, a unified equation to compute the energy density is proposed to compare works performed with distinct equipment and experimental conditions, covering the major process parameters: power, travel speed, heat source dimension, hatch distance, deposited layer thickness and material grain size.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using deep neural network with small dataset to predict material defects

TL;DR: This study attempted to predict solidification defects by DNN regression with a small dataset that contains 487 data points and found that a pre-trained and fine-tuned DNN shows better generalization performance over shallow neural network, support vector machine, and DNN trained by conventional methods.
