A review on selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) of aluminium alloy powders: Processing, microstructure, and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the state of the art in selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) processing of aluminium powders is reviewed from different perspectives, including powder metallurgy (P/M), pulsed electric current (PECS), and laser welding of aluminium alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dislocation network in additive manufactured steel breaks strength–ductility trade-off

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the pre-existing dislocation network, which maintains its configuration during the entire plastic deformation, is an ideal modulator that is able to slow down but not entirely block the dislocation motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical review of automotive steels spot welding: process, structure and properties

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental understanding of structure-properties relationship in automotive steels resistance spot welds is discussed. And a brief review of friction stir spot welding, as an alternative to RSW, is also included.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting fundamental welding concepts to improve additive manufacturing: From theory to practice

TL;DR: In this article, a unified equation to compute the energy density is proposed to compare works performed with distinct equipment and experimental conditions, covering the major process parameters: power, travel speed, heat source dimension, hatch distance, deposited layer thickness and material grain size.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using deep neural network with small dataset to predict material defects

TL;DR: This study attempted to predict solidification defects by DNN regression with a small dataset that contains 487 data points and found that a pre-trained and fine-tuned DNN shows better generalization performance over shallow neural network, support vector machine, and DNN trained by conventional methods.

Effect of pulsed ultrasonic on arc acoustic binding in pulsed ultrasonic wave-assisted pulsed gas tungsten arc welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of pulsed ultrasonic wave-assisted pulsed gas tungsten arc welding was investigated and the results indicated that arc contraction degree, weld pool oscillation, and weld penetration were remarkably enhanced by applying pulsed Ultrasonic.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure, Tensile Properties and Work Hardening Behavior of GTA-Welded Dual-Phase Steels

TL;DR: In this paper, microstructure, tensile properties and work hardening behavior of a DP700 steel after gas tungsten arc welding were investigated, and the GTA-welded joint exhibited a continuous yielding behavior and a yield strength close to that for the base metal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental and numerical analysis of solidification cracking behaviour in fibre laser welding of 6013 aluminium alloy

TL;DR: In this article, a three-dimensional thermomechanical finite element model of fiber laser welding of aluminium alloys was developed, which considered cylindrical volumetric heat source, temperature dependent material properties, solidification shrinkage and stress relaxation in the weld molten pool.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lap joint dissimilar welding of aluminium AA6061 and galvanized iron using TIG welding

TL;DR: In this article, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding was used to lap-join aluminum AA6061-O and galvanized iron with a thin IMC layer and tensile strength of 76.59 MPa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study of dilution in laser cladding of a carbon steel substrate with Co alloy powders

TL;DR: In this paper, high power diode laser with coaxial powder injection was used to deposit single tracks of cobalt alloy on to a carbon steel plate in order to study dilution, and two different methods to evaluate dilution are proposed and validated: dilution results to be proportional to the average percent or iron present in the clad.
