Coordinated Ocean-ice Reference Experiments (COREs)
Stephen M. Griffies,Arne Biastoch,Claus W. Böning,Frank O. Bryan,Gokhan Danabasoglu,Eric P. Chassignet,Matthew H. England,Rüdiger Gerdes,Helmuth Haak,Robert Hallberg,Wilco Hazeleger,Johann H. Jungclaus,William G. Large,Gurvan Madec,Anna Pirani,Bonita L. Samuels,Markus Scheinert,Alex Sen Gupta,Camiel Severijns,Harper L. Simmons,Anne-Marie Tréguier,Michael Winton,Stephen Yeager,Jianjun Yin +23 more
TL;DR: Coordinated Ocean-ice Reference Experiments (COREs) as mentioned in this paper is a tool to explore the behaviour of global ocean-ice models under forcing from a common atmospheric dataset, which is suitable for our purposes, even though its evaluation originally focussed more on the ocean than on the sea ice.
Journal ArticleDOI
The oceanic sink for anthropogenic CO2 from 1994 to 2007
Nicolas Gruber,D. Clement,Brendan R. Carter,Brendan R. Carter,Richard A. Feely,Steven van Heuven,Mario Hoppema,Masao Ishii,Robert M. Key,Alex Kozyr,Siv K. Lauvset,Siv K. Lauvset,Claire Lo Monaco,Jeremy T. Mathis,Akihiko Murata,Are Olsen,Fiz F. Pérez,Christopher L. Sabine,Toste Tanhua,Rik Wanninkhof +19 more
TL;DR: The oceanic sink for anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) over the period 1994 to 2007 is estimated to be 31 ± 4% of the global anthropogenic CO2 emissions over this period, consistent with the expectation of the ocean uptake having increased in proportion to the rise in atmospheric CO2.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ACCESS coupled model: description, control climate and evaluation
Dave Bi,Martin Dix,Simon J. Marsland,Siobhan O'Farrell,Harun Rashid,Petteri Uotila,Anthony C. Hirst,Eva Kowalczyk,Maciej Golebiewski,Arnold Sullivan,Hailin Yan,N. Puri +27 more
TL;DR: The ACCESS-CM framework and components are described in this paper, where the authors present the control climates from two versions of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5), ACCESS1.0 and ACCESS 1.3, together with some fields from the 20 th century historical experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Marine Phytoplankton Temperature versus Growth Responses from Polar to Tropical Waters – Outcome of a Scientific Community-Wide Study
Philip W. Boyd,Philip W. Boyd,Tatiana A. Rynearson,Evelyn Armstrong,Fei-Xue Fu,Kendra Hayashi,Zhangxi Hu,David A. Hutchins,Raphael M. Kudela,Elena Litchman,Margaret R. Mulholland,Uta Passow,Robert F. Strzepek,Kerry A. Whittaker,Elizabeth Yu,Mridul K. Thomas +15 more
TL;DR: This study provides physiological datasets fundamental to understanding functional responses of phytoplankton growth rates to temperature that can be used to parameterise global ocean model projections of environmental change and to provide initial insights into the magnitude of regional biogeographic change in ocean biota in the coming decades.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mediterranean climate and oceanography, and the periodic development of anoxic events (sapropels)
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a new synthesis of current understanding of the processes behind the formation of sapropels, which have over the past decade also become a matter of commercial interest in sub-salt hydrocarbon exploration.

TL;DR: GMT allows users to manipulate (x,y,z) data, and generate PostScript illustrations, including simple x-y diagrams, contour maps, color images, and artificially illuminated, perspective, and/or shaded-relief plots using a variety of map projections.
Climatological atlas of the world ocean
TL;DR: A project to objectively analyze historical ocean temperature, salinity, oxygen, and percent oxygen saturation data for the world ocean has recently been completed at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, Princeton, New Jersey.

The oceans : their physics, chemistry, and general biology
TL;DR: The book is intended to provide a good deal of factual information, but above all it should be an aid to the beginner and specialist alike in the coordination of the various fields of oceanography.
