TL;DR: This paper targeted to reduce the Queue at a billing counter in a shopping complex by displaying the total price of the product kept inside the cart by eliminating the traditional scanning of products at the counter and speeds up the entire process of shopping.
Abstract: This paper targeted to reduce the Queue at a billing counter in a shopping complex. The system does the same by displaying the total price of the product kept inside the cart. In this way the customer can directly pay the amount at the billing counter and leave with the commodities he/she has bought. It eliminates the traditional scanning of products at the counter and in turn speeds up the entire process of shopping, also with this system the customer shall know the total amount to be paid and hence can accordingly plan his shopping only buying the essential commodities resulting in enhanced savings. Since the entire process of billing is automated it reduces the possibility of human error substantially. Also the system has a feature to delete the scanned products to further optimize the shopping experience of the customer. The hardware for the test run is based on the Arduino platform and Xbee modules, as both are very popular in small-scale research and wireless automation solution.

TL;DR: It is suggested that, an intelligent lighting system with outdoor adaptation can be realized via a real fisheye image via the fuzzy c-means method.
Abstract: In this work, an application of adaptive lighting system is proposed for smart homes. In this paper, it is suggested that, an intelligent lighting system with outdoor adaptation can be realized via a real fisheye image. During the implementation of the proposed method, the fuzzy c-means method, which is a commonly used data clustering method, has been used. The input image is divided into three different regions according to its brightness levels. Then, the RGB image is converted to CIE 1931 XYZ color space; and the obtained XYZ values are converted to x and y values. The parameters of x and y values are shown in CIE Chromaticity Diagram for different regions in the sky. Thereafter, the coordinate values are converted to Correlated Color Temperature by using two different formulas. Additionally, the conversion results are examined with respect to actual and estimated CCT values.

TL;DR: Design of new intelligent street light control system does not only achieve energy-saving power but also extend the service life of lighting equipment, and is controllable, ease of maintenance.
Abstract: In China, the methods of time-control, optical-control and time-optical-control are in common used to control street lamp, particularly in small and medium-sized cities. But due to the backward lighting control and administrative method, the precision is bad, and the result of work is also poor. Through many kinds of sensor combination sense environment's change, the multi-sensor exhibition can combinatory logically control the new intelligent street light controller system. And based on the degree of illumination control fixed time, in the automatic foundation fixed time, according to the multi-sensing exhibition survey data's special combination change, to control the street light nimbly; the system can also realize the automatic timing control, by pre-installing time to control street light switch and ultimately to control the street light time. Simultaneously the system can also realize the automatic sunshine control, which may act according to the actual determination of the sunlight degree of illumination and the degree of illumination control criterion and automatically control street light. On the basis of the merits of the regular control and the optical control, a new street smart controller is designed, with dual functions including timing control and automatic photoelectric control. It allows street lamps automatically lit in the evening, lighting the road for a few hours (adjustable time). After 0:00, when few vehicles or pedestrians go past, it turn off automatically. And terminal controller has wake-up function. After the street light turn out automatically, when the vehicles or pedestrians are going through, street light will be waken up by terminal controller. When the vehicles or pedestrians go past, the lights are off automatically. Design of new intelligent street light control system does not only achieve energy-saving power but also extend the service life of lighting equipment. Moreover, it is controllable, ease of maintenance. At the same time, it is helpful to highlight the festive and other characteristics, and ultimately make street light network, intelligence, humanity and art. An optimal configuration is reported. Finally, the results of experiment are obtained that: when a motor is closed to 15 meters, LED lights are on automatically. While people passed, the distance is proximity 10 meters.

TL;DR: The study shows that simulation results are in line with the results achieved through the measurements and fulfil the eDIANA requirements, and a real test-bed composed of IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee-compliant devices is carried out.
Abstract: Realizing energy efficient control strategies in the buildings is one of the innovative and challenging field of application for wireless sensor networks. To achieve the goal of reduced energy consumption and optimized use of energy in the buildings, the deployment of sensors and actuators is crucial. Simple affordable sensors can be used to monitor the power consumed by each appliance in the building in order to turn them on/off when it is efficient in the use of energy. The ARTEMIS Joint Undertaking project eDIANA (Embedded Systems for Energy Efficient Buildings) funded by the European Commission aims to improve energy efficiency in buildings by using embedded technologies. In the eDIANA platform the energy consumed by household or office appliances is monitored by using IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee-compliant devices. The aim of the study is to show the feasibility of the IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee technology to the eDIANA application scenario and to provide guidelines for the network design. For this purpose two studies have been carried out: (i) a simulation analysis of a large apartment where many nodes are deployed; (ii) a real test-bed composed of IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee-compliant devices. In the first case performance, in terms of packet error rate, average delay and energy consumption, is evaluated by varying the number of nodes in different traffic conditions. In the second case, instead, the statistics of the delay is provided. The study shows that simulation results are in line with the results achieved through the measurements. Moreover results fulfil the eDIANA requirements.
