We argue that the modern machine learning algorithms, although impressive in terms of their performance, do not necessarily shed enough light on human learning.
Resistance to adopting machine-learning algorithms in clinical practice may be due to a perception that these are “black-box” techniques and incompatible with decision-making based on evidence and clinical experience.

How does misinformation affecting public perception of climate change?
5 answers
Misinformation significantly impacts public perception of climate change by fueling skepticism and polarization. Politicians, organizations, and anonymous agencies are identified as key agents spreading climate change disinformation, often through misleading and fabricated content. The use of fake experts and ideologically-driven misinformation further exacerbates the divide in public opinion on human-caused global warming. This misinformation, disseminated through various media platforms, hampers efforts to address climate change effectively. The lack of trust in news sources due to the abundance of misleading information, cognitive heuristics, and digital literacy challenges also contributes to the public's uncertainty and hesitancy regarding climate change information. Efforts to combat misinformation require a multi-faceted approach involving scientists, communicators, educators, and policymakers.
How effective is CBT in reducing self-blame among individuals with depression?
5 answers
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has shown effectiveness in reducing self-blame among individuals with depression. Studies have highlighted that CBT interventions, including core, complex, and ultra-complex CBT, significantly reduce depression symptoms. Additionally, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) has been associated with decreased activation in brain regions related to self-blame, potentially mediated by increased self-kindness. Furthermore, a meta-analysis comparing face-to-face and digital CBT interventions for depression found that both approaches were similarly effective, emphasizing the importance of factors like intervention duration and human guidance level in digital CBT. Moreover, a pilot trial incorporating neurofeedback training alongside psychological interventions demonstrated a reduction in self-blame-related neural connectivity, leading to decreased depressive symptoms. Overall, CBT, including various forms and delivery methods, appears to be effective in addressing self-blame in individuals with depression.
