What is the benefit of using beetween-subject design and with-subject design?
4 answers
The benefit of using between-subject designs (BSD) lies in their ability to reduce or eliminate demand and order effects that within-subject designs (WSD) tend to create. BSDs can replicate patterns of results observed in WSDs, as shown in studies conducted within the Information Integration Theory framework. On the other hand, within-subject designs allow for rigorous experimental analyses with a small number of participants, enabling frequent assessments, precise control of variables, and direct observation of individual patterns of change over time. Single-subject designs, a type of within-subject design, are particularly valuable in special education research, as they focus on individual student progress and allow for the examination of functional relationships between variables.
