In conclusion, the cost per episode was significantly lower for aPCC.
Each episode was managed with chest drainage and a six-week course of antibiotic--doxycycline for the second episode and amoxicillin for the third episode, after which she has remained well. This is the first case report of recurrent empyema due to A. aphrophilus.
We also show how the duration constraint possibilities can be used as a design choice to properly focus the episode discovery process.
This episode enabled carers to see that they did not have to tip-toe round this woman; indeed it was helpful for them to be a bit larger than life around her.
Those different castings of the episode make use of intellectual resources for professional practice that practitioners could use to negotiate the norms of a situation in which they had made a tactical but problematic move.
The episode was chosen because it makes visible the mechanics of how a beauty therapist manages conflict between her `multiple involvements' in the salon: between her simultaneous engagement in topic talk and hair removal.

Is there a link between physical activity and self-compassion ?
5 answers
There is indeed a link between physical activity and self-compassion. Research indicates that self-compassion plays a significant role in promoting physical activity by reducing psychological distress and enhancing barrier self-efficacy, particularly in more vigorous physical activities. Studies have explored the impact of Physical Activity Counselling (PAC) on self-compassion and physical activity levels, showing that PAC interventions can lead to improvements in both self-compassion and physical activity behaviors over time, with sustained benefits even at follow-up assessments. Additionally, lower levels of self-compassion have been associated with harmful exercise attitudes and behaviors, such as weight control exercise and lack of exercise enjoyment, highlighting the importance of self-compassion in mitigating negative exercise-related outcomes.
Is stroke rehabilitation cost-effective in the united states?
5 answers
Stroke rehabilitation has been shown to be cost-effective in various studies. Research from Japan indicates that seven-days-per-week rehabilitation for acute stroke patients is likely cost-effective, with an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) below the threshold used for evaluation. A study from Toronto, Canada, found that outpatient high-intensity fast-track stroke rehabilitation was cost-effective, providing savings to the healthcare system. Additionally, a systematic review highlighted that rehabilitation care for stroke patients leads to significant improvements in cost-effectiveness, resource use efficiency, and patient quality of life. Moreover, a study from Greece demonstrated that modern stroke treatments, including rehabilitation, were cost-effective and affordable, emphasizing the importance of adopting such strategies. Therefore, based on these findings, stroke rehabilitation is likely to be cost-effective in the United States as well.
Can stroke rehabilitation programs improve disability costs?
5 answers
Stroke rehabilitation programs have the potential to improve disability costs by enhancing patient outcomes and reducing the economic burden associated with stroke care. These programs aim to reintegrate patients into personal, work, and social life, providing individualized care plans and early rehabilitation. Studies have shown that rehabilitation care for stroke patients leads to significant improvements in cost-effectiveness, promoting clinical benefits and enhancing the efficiency of medical resource utilization. Additionally, outpatient high-intensity fast-track stroke rehabilitation programs have been found to be cost-effective, offering appropriate rehabilitation intensity early on and potentially saving healthcare costs by reducing the number of days awaiting rehabilitation admission. Combining rehabilitation training with acupuncture has also been shown to be more economical and effective than either treatment alone, further emphasizing the potential for stroke rehabilitation programs to positively impact disability costs.
What is the current state of research on metformin as a potential treatment for breast cancer?
5 answers
Current research on metformin as a potential treatment for breast cancer presents a complex picture. While initial observational studies suggested a reduction in cancer incidence with metformin use, subsequent randomized trials did not find significant benefits in cancer outcomes. Metformin has been shown to inhibit growth in breast cancer cells through AMP kinase pathway activation, interfere with insulin-induced signaling pathways promoting cancer progression, and impact various molecular pathways involved in cancer development. However, recent large-scale trials, like the phase 3 trial with 3,649 women, found no improvement in disease-free survival or overall survival with metformin as adjuvant therapy for breast cancer. Further research is needed to fully understand metformin's role in breast cancer treatment and to address the discrepancies between observational and randomized trial results.
How does calisthenics training compare to other forms of exercise in terms of muscle strength and endurance development?
5 answers
Calisthenics training has been shown to be effective in enhancing muscle strength and endurance compared to other forms of exercise. Studies have demonstrated that combining calisthenics with aerobic exercise results in significant improvements in flexibility, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular endurance. Additionally, calisthenics training has been found to increase muscle mass, strength, and physical endurance, offering a cost-effective and outdoor exercise option. Furthermore, calisthenics training, when integrated with regular soccer training, significantly improves overall performance in terms of speed, agility, flexibility, and kicking accuracy among soccer players. Implementing a calisthenics strength training program in school physical education has also led to enhanced muscle strength in adolescents. These findings highlight the effectiveness of calisthenics in developing muscle strength and endurance across different populations and settings.
