The zinc inhibition is much more pronounced than was previously reported, with dissociation constants in the low nanomolar range.
The MTs from the livers of mice treated with cis-DDP bound zinc, copper and platinum in ratios of 5:1:0.3, respectively, similar to those in whole liver and its soluble fraction, indicating that MTs do not selectively sequester platinum under these circumstances.
It is thought that zinc may play a part in this process.
The results of the present experiment indicate that the zinc tolerance test, that is, an unequivocal rise in serum zinc following per oral administration of this metal, provides the best indication of zinc status.
Compared with the Zn-free support, the substitution of Zn in the support strengthened the interaction of platinum with support and increased the platinum dispersion effectively.
It is shown that the distribution of the interstitial zinc is dependent upon the species of chemisorbed oxygen prevalent, and that a marked concentration of excess zinc in the surface fraction of the crystals is apparent only in those samples of zinc oxide on which the oxygen chemisorbed is predominantly of the reactive variety.
